I dunno, its that same puzzle isn't it.

Usign nukes to defend yourself isn't exactly great either.
Its only really a bluff.

Yeah all nukes in the end are a bluff. But hindsight you can now see why Russia were so keen to push for denuclearisation of Ukraine. Shame really as no country in their right mind would agree to it now

Here we go again, doing the whole nuke talk.

This is exactly what Russia wants. If you believe them, their propaganda is working on you.

Not if you think a mexican standoff is preferrable.

Nb. Iirc South Korea announced it was going to get / or develop nukes last week.

There's not a 0% chance of it happening (nor a 100% chance either) but frankly we shouldn't let it dictate what we do to support Ukraine defending themselves, that leads to no good outcome for anyone.

I don't support blowing up Russia either, I think Ukraine need to kick them out and then the world can leave them on the naughty step for a while until they learn to behave.

Sounds good to me but I don't think Putin will give back Crimea.

It's a bargaining chip, as Russia really wants it, but Ukraine hasn't had it for a long time.

Possibly could use it as part of peace settlement, If Ukraine is made whole again minus Crimea I think it would be a reasonable outcome for them, as long as they get some better guarantees out of it (Russia won't stand in way of NATO or EU membership for example).

This will eventually have to be settled one way or another, the Crimea question is one that is probably for the future, need to kick Russia out of the Donbas first really.

There must be some point broadly agreed amongst the allies and Ukraine in regards where Ukraine would allow for a negotiated settlement. Whilst in public thats complete withdrawl of Russia I wonder if on the quiet they would give up Crimea as long as they got EU and NATO membership should they choose to sign up and meet the criteria.
To me, if I was Zelensky its the sort of balance I would be looking for.

Putin won't willingly give anything back. However, I do agree - if he's going to commit any act of desperation, Crimea might be the thing that triggers it.

The problem with using a tactical nuke or a biological agent into Ukraine, is that it's going to kill Russians as well.

Indeed. It also undermines any benefit they would get from taking Ukraine (if they turn it into a desolate radioactive wasteland).

Doing so would just the be the ultimate "chucking your toys out of the pram" moment.

The problem with giving Russia Crimea, is that it means they can keep their black sea fleet there as a continual threat to NATO and Ukraine.

It will just give Russia time to rebuild, re-supply and wait for their generation of Hitler youth to become soldiers - and try again.

By which time Ukraine might be in NATO/be armed to the teeth with the latest Western weaponry. Unless Russia have some sort of economic miracle happen to them, they wont be having another go anytime soon.
