Russians claiming they've once again stopped Ukraine's offensive, they also claim ukranians drove vehicles straight into land mine fields without trying to clear first

If true that's a shame, the Russian positions have been getting hammered with artillery and HIMARS and potentially they're still unable to push vehicles through the Russian lines
If true it's possible they didn't know the mines were there.

I wonder how many storm shadows we gave them though and how many they have left. We only ordered 1000 or less and have used some of those in other conflicts. I don't suppose we gave them our entire remaining supply and they are using multiple missiles per strike it seems.
Storm shadow is what we call a jointly developed French/British missile based off a previous French missile. France are also supplying them to Ukraine and have greater production facilities than we do (as they supply them to export customers like India and Greece in addition to their own air force) so there should be a steady supply to Ukraine.

I wish they would stop using that phrase... Its a ******* war of course the situation is bloody difficult!
In fairness it does need stressing. During the Korean war we lost nearly a whole battalion because the commanding officer radioed the Americans to say that things were getting "a bit sticky" (his forces were outnumbered 20:1 and being overrun) and they assumed he meant it wasn't too serious :P

You are not at all as funny as you seem to think you are and your username is spot on
To be honest, that was a pretty funny comeback
Still no attack from Ukraine, its June, are they waiting till the end of summer?
Are you under a rock or is this sarcastic or something ? Twitter and this thread is full of Ukraines new counter offensive which began last night

Any engineers care to explain why the middle structure is still standing and hasn't been washed away ? Is it just a case of being lucky enough to not be weakened and the water has found its favorable path of least resistance now ?

Not without knowing why it failed...munitions vs mismanagement for example.

Probably the damage stopped at reinforced areas, having started between say reinforced pillars after damage/lack of maintenance and could still fail due to what is happening either side.

IIRC most large dams are built with the ""wall" including the sluices between two or more supports, longer/wider ones often have multiple sets of sluices and support sections (which may contain equipment to operate the sluices).

A google of the dam from before suggests that there is a change in construction (probably the operating house) on one side of the damage, and that it looks like it's basically lost a number of the supporting pillers and probably stopped at a (for now) undamaged/intact one.

How come the area in red has completely gone though and not that central bit, I would have expect the central part to fail before the bit connected to the rest of the land

A number of possibilities.
Sitting on a rock outcropping.
Deeper or piled foundations under machine houses.
The hydraulic flows in channels in the lake bed undermining the foundation.
ExplosIve weakening of sections of the dam.
Other historic damage or weakening.
Lack of maintenance.

Poor leopard

Ukranians are having the same problem the Russians did just a few months ago at Adivkaa - vehicle columns driving down known roads, drones spot the column and ten artillery guns have the entire road dialed in within minutes
