Putin is biding his time, adding time to plan. However for now putin gains Belarus, removes some top military but he is left with a public display to challenge and a serious threat that will be in putin’s best interest to neutralise to consilidate his position.
The question is after ukraine does belarus get annexed into wagnerland.
I suspect the durma, and not putin, may have suggested this approach as the durma now hedge their bets with a leader in waiting.. he needs statecraft and belarus is a way to test and train him as a successor to putin.
This would indicate that putin haa lost, and is a puppet whilst being given the security that he will be put out to pasture as a national hero (?!?).

I think you're right.

This whole bizarre episodes raises questions, such as just how many toilet bowls, washing machines and Lada’s lacking anti lock brakes and electronic stability control does it take to end a coup in Russia these days?
Not sure how you could come up with that idea. You are clearly not aware Russia already stationed troops in Belarus and invaded from there. They could have moved Wagner troops there at any time without the elaborate theatrics.
This was Prigozhin throwing his toys out of the pram because he was being undermined by the Russian MOD. It was not an elaborate CT plot with some unseen 4D chess objective. Certainly not one as pointless as “invade from Belarus” because they already did that.
Possibly but none of the theatrics are a precursor to that.
I think this was all a way to keep our eyes elsewhere. It's bought Russia time to prepare a front from Belarus by moving Wagner up that way and then using the troops from Chetchnya to attack from the east.

I'd never make an assumption like that about Putin's personal identity compass. Most of what we get fed is muddy info at best.
It sounds a bit out there and of course I may well be wrong but how we see things right now could be very different to how things really are.
If we saw that much troop movement then Ukraine would have to put counter measures in place to reconfigure deployment. Maybe Russia are betting on then nor responding to this like a potential attack giving them more of the element of surprise

Surely it’s not some false flag. They’ve lost 7 (very close to losing more) extremely valuable aircraft to Wagner today, including specialist EW helos, attack helos and transport aircraft, not to mention their crews.
The aircrew won’tve been some drunken Siberian yokels armed with sticks, they will have been mainly officers with the ability and training to crew complex aircraft.
Seems more likely Prigozhin has been on a three week bender, was more drunk than normal last night, thought ‘I’m the gaffer now‘ and things escalated from there. By late afternoon the hangover had kicked in properly and he thought ‘Ive dropped a right bollock here’ and is now trying find a house in Belarus without any windows.

Russia has zero capability of conducting a major offensive now. Zero. Prigozhin chickened out and Putin chickened out, both cowards to the core.

You can't hide troop movement, that whole region is monitored to hell. Besides they've only moved one bloke to Belarus and if they move his abandoned 25k troops it would be known about in seconds. If the wanted Wagner in Belarus, they would have just moved them there.
People are trying to read some elaborate plot into this when the most likely reason it happened is because a significant portion of the people running the show are incompetent idiots.
