Not the information I read, the west said they were gutted by 90 to 95% of their forces and as they take 4 years to train they are not getting replaced anytime soon.

The presentation suggested the 22nd and two other special forces brigades were gutted by 90 to 95 per cent. The bold bit has come from the pentagon.

Just for reference, Russia has at leaast 16+ official SF Brigades with each holding approximately 400-800 men (exact numbers are classified) plus there is more smaller individual 100+ man SF companies which aren't grouped in Brigades as well. So whilst losing 3 Brigades is bad, obviously, its only a 19% reduction in overall official numbers and probably even lower than that for overall SF numbers (once you include the non-brigade SF companies too).

Another thing to consider is that in Putin’s desperation to avoid using conscription drafts in the early phases of the war, a lot of the personnel from the Russian Army’s training centres were fed into the log-chipper as reinforcements, meaning that they now no longer have that many experienced training staff left to train up new recruits, only compounding their problems with poor training and discipline.

Numbers are too low - 800 is a BTG , a Brigade runs as a reinforced regiment in size - they are a `Formation` where a Battalion is a `Unit`

That's the point, isn't it? Russia had a whole load of brigades that were supposed to be filled out by conscripts but were sent out without that conscripts so they had the officers, specialists, and equipment but not the foot soldiers who were supposed to support them. Isn't that why Russia's tanks got curbstomped? They didn't have the infantry which was supposed to protect and support those tanks so they were easily ambushed and attacked by Ukrainian units with anti-tank weapons.

Its more nuanced than that - the VDV had BMD ( all versions) with the Homestal Airport assault, but the larger equipment was supposed to be flown in by transport. AFU put paid to that idea as the airport runway was clsoed due to damage, which left the VDV as light infantry with BMD. Those could be knocked out by machine gun fire, as the armour is thinner than even the Saxon could resist AP rounds. VDV though never had conscipts, its not even in the regular army structure

General Rroff knows better than the Pentagon!

Good spot, poor googling on my part as I assumed SF meant smaller numbers for the same general Army use of the "Brigade" name but according to - https://www.marshallcenter.org/en/p...ence-political-warfare-and-battlefield-role-0 it looks to be approximately 1,400 men per Brigade made of several approximately 500 men (Regiment sized) "Detachments". However they do say that those sizes can vary depending on units and location.

"General Rroff can correct someone making an incorrect assumption based on a quote better than the pentagon" is what you should have said, if you wanted to be accurate :D

Nothing in that article is at odds with what I said. People have got a lot of stuff really backwards for some reason.

Same as the insistences months ago that Russia had used up all their missile stocks and were nearly out of artillery shells...

One of the problems was the infantry weren't dismounting either through lacking command structure, lack of experience or unwillingness - they'd then pile up APCs, etc. full of men which would get hit and result in multiple casualties - hence why Russia losses were often so high early in the war.
