It's like he's rounded up the who's who of Russian political power and pushed/paraded them in front of the camera to get, on the record, their support for what he's about to do. If it fails, they will all fail with him.
The way he forced that last guy to answer was quite chilling

So basically Russian would be cool with provinces on it's borders, that have a lot of people that speak the language of those across the way, declaring themselves a republic. Would love to see a journalist ask Putin that directly. would have course have to be a foreign journalist asked somewhere outside of Russia. The ones inside can't be trusted not to fall off their own balconies the silly sausages.

Official Ukraine does not recognize Separatists. They consider Donbass officially occupied by Russian army and only Russian army. Why would they need to bend Ukraine to not go to war when Russian Army moves into Donbas? If their stance was that since 2015 Russian army has been there.

Once again, Ukraine does not recognize existence of separatism. To them, its Russian army.

To Ukraine they are Russian army. Russian army so far has not put all it's weight into Donbass region. Now it looks like they are going all in for Donbas region to declare independence for that area.

NATO will not get involved if this is all Russian army does. If it went further or goes for Kyiv then NATO/West must act (IMO)

It's a tought pill for Ukraine to swallow but they should allow that area to be taken into Russia. Have a smaller, more easier to manage country moving forward towards NATO/EU

He totally **** himself. Don't blame him either, got put on the spot. Sputtered out the wrong rhetoric, was corrected about what his opinion was and told to go sit down. His heart rate must be 180.

So to summarise some points for you all.

Elected Ukraine president at the time wanted closer ties to Russia in 2014.
2014 protests happened, overthrowing the elected president at the time. (sponsored protests you never know?)
Ukraine imposed restrictions on Russian language with new government.
East Ukraine rightly unhappy with this and created some republics.
Minsk agreement drawn up because of the violence

EU / Nato should declare they have no interest in Ukraine joining these organisations.
U.S would not allow missiles on their door step during the Cold War. Similar issue here.

It wasn't right what happened in 2014. But you don't get to hear much of this side.

Too bad our stupid UK government and opposition and media doesn't look back more than the last year when it comes to geo politics.

I suspect was found ill in the toilets and quietly taken home where nobody heard anything of him again..

What was clear is that they have not had time to walk through with cameras etc. And they are nervous about going to war. Unsurprising. I think anyone would be.

Putin looks like he was going to throw up at one point, and also seem to have a dry throat..

Putin basically said they’re declaring DNR and LNR independent.

I believe this is a possible off ramp for everyone to save face.

Ukraine/NATO/US consider Donbas not separatist but Russia occupied. So declaring these independent changes nothing in their eyes.

Putin gets a win for home.

The issue here will be if US comes back and says that recognizing Donbas is actually war.

Or if Russia declares whole oblast but Putin said no.

The government got overthrown in 2014, it is not surprising the country is split in half. When you have the EU pulling one side and Russia on the other.

It should have been done through elections not protests.

IIRC that area is 60%+ Russian hence it's always had a bit of a issue with Ukrainian rule.

Crimea was given freedom then the day after Russia invaded.

In Ukraine's mind, every break away freedom ends up being a Russian capture.

One chap very clear to point out 'he' wanted to see these 'independent' states have their original borders. That means as soon as they recognise them they'll tell the Ukrainians they have x hours to pull back to those borders or worst case just charge in over them. Troops in Belarus and other areas there to ensure Ukraine strength diluted and worst case scenario they push in on the capital if the east becomes a quagmire should Ukraine choose to fully defend it.

Again, people like you is reason why cant have off ramp situation.

The ‘chap’ was spanked by Putin immediately. Yet you parrot this nonsense as his POV is taken serioisly

Economically the west holds absolutely immense force. USA GDP of 25 trillion and EU 17 trillion against Russia's 1.7 trillion.

Long term economically the west can leverage that soft power to contain Russia. Long term Ukraine can get strong enough to retake lost territories....if US/EU approves such a move.
Russia has its own economical partners - namely china and half of mid-east and other associates.

bigger economy doesnt guarantee you victory

Korean War, Vietnam War, Golf War and other more recent ventures....

You don't think it was part of the script in that charade ?

Of course he doesn't. He's happy to preach to others about not taking things at face value but then he'll happily do it when it suits his agenda.

As someone else said, his posts in this thread have been "off" from the start.
