Thank you. I've just had a look. Those two Oblast are much bigger than the areas currently being fought over.

It's a shame they can't be allowed to just vote on it - accepted there would be issues over rigging. I was in Kiev when they were having the elections in 2014. Had a chat with a British guy who was travelling Ukraine as part of the international team overseeing the voting.

The guy I was talking about came straight after and said they should be independent and with their original borders. He was thanked and told to go back to his seat. Go look for yourself. Don't think a livestream can have timestamps linked.

Perhaps you're right, I'm not going to argue I did sort of half arse watch it as its all staged anyhow - he knew their answers more less before the meeting. Perhaps its all even pre-recorded. Would not put it past them.

I still believe that because one of 20 or so officials said it - its hardly stance of Putin.

Putin's going to go for the whole 'separatist' regions in Ukraine. How can a sovereign neighbouring country be allowed to be dictated to by its bigger bullying neighbour. If we stand by and do nothing it will be followed by other separatist incidents or the like with the same ultimate goal.

What you fail to realize is that sometimes its best to lose a little to win more later. Russia also lost Chechnya in 90's, only to come back couple years later to re-capture it. The world is not linear and answering to every conflict with war or nuclear war is not optimal.

Ukraine has always declared those regions Russia occupied, declaring them independent changes nothing in their eyes. If anything, it pulls them out of Minsk that Ukraine has zero desire to implement.

USSR fell without any nuclear strikes, China, Russia can collapse exactly the same way. It's stupid to change the method into direct confrontation.
 
The USSR fell because it repressed it's populations. Not a solution to return to particularly as Russia still retains this internally. Don't let's allow Putin this coup putting people's lives at hazard.
 
Weird how president Biden (today)said he will hold talks with Putin if Russia does not invade its neighbour, yet there are so many here who believe Russia has already invaded.
I think one or two of you need to call Biden up and tell him the talks are off as Russia has already invaded.

Well it was mainly the extreme lack of money as the number one cause. There were no big displays of dissent ever since the Hungary put-down of 1956 scared everyone else into being quiet. However once the money was gone and Russia couldn't afford to garrison the whole USSR it all fell apart quite naturally, but their repression made the fall-out happen far more quickly than the Russian anticipated I'd suggest.

BTW did you call Boris and Biden and tell them the invasion has already happened and from now on to get updates from you ?

Yes, technically the sanctions should already gone ahead since Russia has invaded 8 years ago. The new ones for invasion of Ukraine.
 
Israel closing embassy in kyiv. That's supposedly the canary in the coalmine in terms of intelligence movements.

Agreed however when the border between east and west became porous there was no stopping the collapse and exodus. Talk of the provinces being 60% Russian is a misnomer, they may be Russian speaking, of Russian descent, but are Ukranian. They have or had Ukrainian passports. It is like saying that Leicester as a majority Asian city should secede and take all of Leicestershire with it to join with south east Asia. A nonsense.
 
I guess the plan is, roll into the disputed areas, wait for Ukraine to try and defend them (or just make up more false flags) then declare war on Ukraine.
