The problem with the lay siege and starve them idea, is that despite what Vlad likes to think it's not a Russian peninsula, it's an occupied Ukrainian peninsula with tens of thousands of Ukrainians still trapped there.

If you cut off the supply of food it won't be the Russians who are made to starve first :(
It's war... regrettable actions that hasten the end of the war are always on the table.

Wow new Kraken video out on CombatFootage reddit. Russians just sent into the meat grinder by their commanders. Amazing production values, they really are getting very good at making these videos.
That video at the end is wild and the most Russian thing I've ever seen.

They are just reversing over thier own guys with their tanks like they are not even there.

Clueless headless-chicken panic.

Russians managed to shoot down another helicopter...a russian one lol.
SAM Operator 1: Enemy detected, looks like a combat helicopter.
SAM Operator 2: But the enemy don't have any combat helicopters!
SAM Operator 1: And they seem to have painted our flag on it to try an confuse us!
SAM Operator 2: Maybe we should check first, remember what happened with the "Malaysian Army" plane you found?
SAM Operator 1: Target locked, firing.
SAM Operator 2: Damnit Igor
SAM Operator 1: Target destroyed, strange, I've lost my radar relay feed from one of our spotters, try and fix that would you.
SAM Operator 2: Why do I bother...

Some report earlier that Russia moved some MIG 31 fighters and cruse missiles. Maybe the Ukrainians found them.

Strange one, at that range can we assume Storm Shadow and if that's the case I don't think they would sent it after individual aircraft's, it is usually reserved for high value targets.

Now a cruse missiles stockpile, that would be a juicy target.

Russia's MiG-31s are high value targets.

Not only do they both completely outrange anything the Ukrainian air force has and have the ability to carry the Kinzhal hypersonic (allegedly) cruise missile. But due to their advanced/powerful radar and being the first of the USSR's digitally datalinked aircraft they can share their radar data with each other (up to 120 miles apart) and broadcast that data to fighter and ground attack aircraft with less capable radars and some SAM systems. If that wasn't bad enough they can also share radar data with Russia's AWACS aircraft.

So yeah, they're big wins for Ukraine whenever they manage to hunt one on the ground.

Yeah never a waste taking out Russia's "newer" combat aircraft - they often only have small numbers actually operational so every one destroyed is quite a significant loss of capability.

EDIT: Though they have a few more of the MiG-31s operational than some of the more advanced stuff.

Odd Russia/USSR didn't bother to give the MIG-31 a proper bubble canopy like you see in the F-16. Suggests the MUG was meant to be used more as advanced interceptor then all purpose fighter jet.

It is the same reason why a Tu-95 never got a bubble canopy. It was never meant to mix it up with fighters in a dogfight.

Aren't all the new-ish Sukhoi planes late-soviet designs that took forever to get built after the USSR imploded? The only post-soviet design that seems to be somewhat formidable is the BMPT, but the lack of anything more than a handful of them existing makes it mostly irrelevant.

There's the SU57 which is post Soviet: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sukhoi_Su-57
They only have about 10 of them though.

The Ukrainians have been banging their head against this line for a while now, I wonder if this is more to tie down Russians resources here and help the crossing of the Dnipro.

If they can make progress there all the Russian fortification can be bypassed.

There are rumours that a few hours ago Putin suffered a heart attack

Definitely grain of salt stuff.

I'll await confirmation on that one! or perhaps they'll wheel his corpse out like they did that other guy who got killed in Crimea? Don't think we heard from him again.
