But exactly the same thing has happened with the UN, since Russia has a veto on any resolutions which makes the institution toothless

I'm also surprised there is no provision for a special resolution to change the rules - if there is one in either the UN/EU, they are choosing not to use it

You know, with the new American bases in Finland coming, Russian media were handed a big W. They will now claim on TV that the Russian military has made massive advances and now they are closer than ever to American soil

Yeah!!! I mean who on earth would have thought that trying to get dozens of nations with vastly different beliefs, financial systems, politics, ethnicities etc to all agree on doing the same thing - and if if one disagrees it stops it all - would've been a bad idea when times are hard

It's almost like some people live in a fairy tale where everyone is "good" and we all club together against the "bad" people, rather than living in the real world where virtually everyone does what's best for themselves, even if it screws over others. You'd hope those people "in charge" wouldn't be driven by such base silliness but, here we are again I suppose with one silly sod holding up the whole EU until they bribe him to stay quiet!

Sounds like someone is still smarting from having their Starfleet application refused...

So you are saying if the EU has a genocidal Hitler esque idiot in charge of a member state then it's ok because everyone is different?? Tough luck..

Am I?

Reading my post again thats the complete opposite to what I'm saying. What I said, in simpler terms, is exactly what you said - The EU shouldn't be hamstrung because of one countries opinion. My complaint was also exactly the same as yours, that the people who set-up the EU never thought that this situation would happen and why.

:D

Because the EU (EEC) was originally set up between a France and Germany to stop one party accidentally turning right instead of left and invading the other party. Then a few more countries, not many were invited to join the new trading agreement, the UK was declined several times but eventually joined in '74 ish. Followed by Spain after Fascism died.

Then it kind of went **** up with the Euro and countries telling porkies about how rich they were and mass expansion sort of worked with poor people travelling west for jobs and housing.

Now at 27 strong, poor people are coming north out of Africa too and all the states are doing their own thing, fraternity, you must be joking. So now the tin pot dictatorships on the edge of functioning in a proper manner are extorting large sums from the rest.

Good eh! :D

My bad then, I apologise

Funnily enough the same applies to the UN, the rules say you're supposed to abstain from a vote involving a conflict you're party too, however nobody ever though to put in place a contingency for what would happen if said party just decided to ignore it and use their veto xD

Yeah. I mean, you’d never get that kind of disagreement in the UK.

Because Ukraine is actually firing more artillery than the Russians and have been for a few months now.
Sadly that's the opposite of what the Ukrainian artillerymen are saying in the article:

"During the peak period of the counter-offensive and even just a few months ago, the ratio between Russian and our artillery fire was largely 1:1 or bigger in our advantage. Now, we fire one round for every four or five rounds that Russia fires."

Ukrainian artillery is going for accuracy rather than area effect. (newer systems we have provided). They still use the older Soviet stuff though as well. You definitely arent going to get accuracy with worn smooth barrels and NK ammunition.
