Even though somebody eye rolled this comment, you are likely correct. Britain would be no match for Russia in any kind of war.

I did not mean that Britain is no match for Russia in terms of warfare... In fact when I say "we" I meant whole NATO.

Bottom line is that if NATO and Russia go to war, as I said... It will last 8-10 minutes and those will be the last minutes of the world as we know....

Then its Fallout 4 time :D

I certainty dont want this happen over Ukraine.

I know our politicians are not the smartest bunch but I doubt they are interested in living in fallout 4 world, where they will have no skills to survive.

Well there are a lot of stupid/insane people in positions of power across the globe so nuclear war is always a worry, especially in extremely volatile situations like this.

This is not even volatile! We are just hyping it up, in all honesty.... We dont even care about Ukraine.

Cuban Crisis, that was a really close call... Or the time Americans tried to force Soviet Submarine to Surface, little did they know it carried nuclear warheads and they lost all contact with Moscow....

At that moment they already put the keys into authorization system to unlock protocol allowing them to assume that Moscow has been nuked therefore it was their duty to fire on USA.

Ukraine? This is just child-play compared to what we have been through.

Well if you believe that the situation is not volatile, then I'm afraid we'll just have to agree to disagree.

As long as we dont make any moves... We will be absolutely fine.

Although this one made me laugh a bit, until I realized how bad things could have ended;

January 25, 1995: A team of Norwegian and American scientists launched a Black Brant XII four-stage sounding rocket from the Andøya Rocket Range, with the goal of studying the aurora borealis. The rocket, which bore resemblance to a US Navy submarine-launched Trident missile, was detected by the Olenegorsk early warning radar station in Murmansk Oblast, Russia. The rocket's predicted trajectory, as well as its overall shape and appearance, led the Russian military to believe it was in fact a Trident nuclear missile launched from a US Navy submarine and aimed at Moscow. Russian nuclear forces were put on high alert, and Russian submarine commanders were ordered to go into a state of combat readiness and prepare for nuclear retaliation. The nuclear weapons command briefcase was brought to Russian President Boris Yeltsin, who in turn activated his "nuclear keys" in preparation for a response strike. However, after a few minutes, Russian observers were able to determine that the rocket was heading away from Russian airspace and was not a threat, leading Russian military officials to demobilize. This incident was the first and only time in which a nuclear weapons state activated its nuclear briefcase and prepared to launch an attack.

Ukraine is literally breaking apart, no one expected east and south to rise against new government in such way.... The maidan in Kiev is a joke compared to what Pro-Russian regions are currently doing.

We in the West, should have forced that agreement where Yanukovich was to remain president until emergency elections... We agreed to it, but then the Protesters decided they want to get rid of him right now....

They really bought it on themselves.... I mean the new government.... Who in their right mind removes Russian language first thing once in office in a country which is around 40% Russian... Bloody idiots, all I am going to say... They will end like Yanukovich sooner or later just fleeing to EU.

the way everyone keeps saying it gives the impression they are trying to completely remove Russian speaking

Well there is a problem, Russian has been an official language in Ukraine and that made everyone happy....

It is kinda big thing really if a new government which comes in removes it as an official language, in a country where nearly half speak Russian.

I am sure you would understand why east and south feel hostility to new government, this was first law they passed.... Along with bans and removing of Soviet memrobilia a.k.a lenin statues and WW2 statues to fallen soldiers...

Dont you think this is a bit stupid to do first thing once you are in parliament??

What kind of message does that send out to Russian speaking population??? They got into Parliament did not discuss how to get country on track and functioning, they were deciding on how to remove Russian language and everything that reminded them of Russia or Soviet Union... As I said, how dumb do you have to be to do this....

I lost all support for Maidan thing since that... Those people do not understand simple things, how can you trust them to run a country.

Have you seen the video that seems to show the protesters getting shot from behind.

Most disturbing is that in all fairness, those who were shot and killed should have had a post death analysis on the bodies... Then it would provide substantial evidence to who shot those protesters and from what angles.

Apparently all bodies were quickly removed and disposed... Everyone keeps quiet about this idea...

Although, this might be a 2 way game.... Clearly something isnt clean...

If you only position snipers in front of your enemy instead of around them then you're doing it wrong.

Who's to say the Ukraine forces had not encircled the protesters?

The whole idea is that for many weeks the government has kept its soldeirs un-armed completely.

Why all of the sudden they should start shooting at the crowd?? Everyone knew that this would be a suicide in the situation that was present....

At that point, the only way out was to only napalm the whole square.... Not shoot at 2-3 protesters causing a massive assault and outcry from whole world...

Doesnt seem sensible dont you think.

As Russia has supported Crimea in having a referendum to break away from the country it belongs to. Will they now support areas that want to break away from Russia such as Chechnya.

We already supported Chechen independence in 90`s....

However at the moment Chechnya and Chechens love Putin a lot, it is the only region that votes something like 99% for Putin.

About annexing, does this remind anyone of recent Falkland Island debate?? You know, we said we wont give it back because people there want to be part of UK... Isnt Russia doing same thing but just a bit differently??

The people of the Crimea ultimately should be given the right to self-determination, so if a fair and open referendum is actually going to be held then it's really the only way to go.

The new government has said they are prepared to use military force against Crimea to keep it a part of Ukraine.

The only reason why they havent, is that the Russians have more weapons in Crimea than what Ukraine millitary has usable right now.

The new government in Ukraine, is very far from democratic government/western/european government that we are led to believe... They are arresting the pro-Russian movements in Eastern Ukraine, apparently they cut off some Eastern regions from funding too....

They bought it onto themselves, you just do not get into power and remove Russian language as 1st law passed and then wonder why whole country is splitting up.... Morons.

not sure but with this comment

sounds like she is foreign, but who knows.

it does show how legitimate this vote is though if you can show a temp visa and get to vote on something. and of course this is if you ignore the fact it never went before the Ukrainian parliament.

That thing she is holding, seems more like "Permanent Resident" Status rather than temporary holiday visa...

The new government has refused to follow a deal signed by all parties including western and Russian observers... They also said they will sign the EU deal before general elections, first law they passed is to remove status of Russian being official and removal of soviet statues a.k.a of Lenin....

I think you get the general idea, its not Putins fault that South and East are uprising but the new governments, they only have themselves to blame.

In eyes of Russian population in Ukraine, the government is fascist.... Who`s fault is that??
