Was thinking hypothetically about possible outcomes from this war, would the UK not be an ideal target for Russia if they wanted to make a statement and go all or nothing? Nuke the hell out of the UK, its got a natural barrier around it so rest of Europe does not get fallout so much, and scare the rest of the world into submission? If that happened would that be world war 3 or would the likes of the US shy away from all out war? Would our nuclear deterrent be enough to prevent that or would the retaliation from our subs be like a pin ***** to Russia? I'm sure someone will tell me I'm talking rubbish but I'm just putting the questions out there to see what people think.
Given that at one point Stalin believed he could win and survive a nuclear war, it's not out of the bounds of possibility.

Fortunately, most politicians cling to power like a limpet mine to a ships hull. They know their power will be diminished if they start a nuclear war. It takes someone truly insane like Stalin to start one, and even he restrained himself.

I have my doubts whether our nuclear deterrent is powerful enough these days. Having said that, I don't think that Putin would gamble on that being the case.

The thing is that anyone looking to destroy Russia (the idea of it) only needs to flatten Moscow/St Petersburg such is their overcentralised affliction, so practically every nuclear armed nation could achieve it.

So they’ve run out of generals to send to the front lines, next prisioners, now celebs.. won’t be long before it will be FSB and politicians..

Didn’t Vladolf promise entertainment on the front line? Plus, I seem to remember a film crew following Putin around topless on a rather broke back mountain/non traditional relationship type holiday. Maybe the Kremlin should look into Vladolf more closely as he seems a bit ghay TBH.

No if russia wanted cause problems it would enlist the deep cover agents that dashed the border before the finland border closed.
Civil unrest and sabotage.

I have to say that I think Ukraine will lose. Russia is a bigger country, with far greater resources. The West is politically confused at the moment, the people divided, and will lose interest.

It is a huge shame, to say the least. You know, the problem with the West these days is that it has lost focus. America is tearing itself apart and Europe, for decades, has buried its head in the sand and pretended that another major war is out of the question.

Democracy is backfiring in the West. We are divided, and unfortunately it only takes a very small minority to derail any efforts to maintain security and defence. Of course, no one wants war, but whether we like it or not, war happens. And we are not prepared at all.

So many Americans just want to close their borders and pretend the rest of the world doesn't exist. That's not a sign of a great country, it is the sign of an empire in decline. Sooner or later the rest of the world will come knocking.

They very well could have we don't pull our fingers out.

However it's not certain...yet.

Putin has proven that casualties mean nothing at all, there will be no uprising or anything, he's ex KGB if there is one thing he does know is how stop unrest.
Win no matter the cost seems the course.

First of all, the sea is quite good at stopping/containing things like lava, Roombas, and swarms of angry cats. Against floating clouds of radiation it doesn't do **** :P

Secondly, Russia wouldn't dare do something so stupid as our nuclear response would be sufficient to turn all the nice/rich cities in Russia into wastelands (yes, both of them). If Putin wanted to do something that fatally stupid/suicidal he would go for the USA.

Some great footage of Russian armoured column being taken out. First the front tank with mine clearing attachment at the front is disabled with what looks like a mine. The the rear BNP goes up, followed by the other tank and BMP in between them. Finished off any survivors with artillery and cluster shells. Job well done.

Notice the previous failed attempt littering the area.

They have to be in drugs when they advance

I find it much more likely Putin would use a tactical nuke on Crimea or Eastern Ukraine if he thinks he's lost them. Russian scorched earth campaign, before Ukraine are able to join NATO.

Using it against just the UK would be strategically pointless. May as well launch them across all of NATO if they're hitting the UK.

End of the day Putin/Russia is very unlikely to use nuclear weapons unless their back is to a wall. The Russian government is more like a cartel or mafia - they don't want to put their behinds on the line.

If the UK lacked a nuclear deterrent I'd say there was a small chance Putin might gamble that a demonstrative use of nuclear weapons could work for intimidation purposes - with the rest of Europe and/or US not thinking the trade off worth it - fortunately we and France have our own arsenals to deter that - but I think anti-nuclear folk need to take a ******* backseat right now because they likely have no idea what hell they could unleash if they actually got their way - Russia would certainly like that.

I think there is a chance Russia might attempt to use them in a demonstrative capacity but if they were to do so I think they'd have probably already done it by now.
