UK announces sanctions.

Does that mean Chelsea's assets are frozen?

The West must act as one here. Sanctions fast, sanctions hard. The Russian economy needs to be threatened with a collapse.

Anyone who wondered why Putin was in favour of Brexit, look no further.

In fairness, most people don't know the difference between a tank and a tank based support vehicle. So it makes sense for the media to call them all tanks because that's what a regular person will think they are seeing them anyway.

I.E if a report said ZSU-23-4MP then people wouldn't have a clue what they were reading/hearing, if they saw a picture they would think "eh, it's a tank". I know it's not correct to just call all tank design based/derived stuff a tank, but for simplicity's sake that is the standard practice and has been for decades.

Oh yeah - there are some I couldn't tell without looking it up. But the media tends to not even bother trying.

Seems like Ukraine will be sleepwalking into full invasion if they think they can solve this by diplomatic means, Putin literally holds all the cards
Can't really see a way out of this for them now, if they re-apply to join NATO and get accepted again then they can guarantee to be invaded prior to joining, if the west sends troops/etc there to try and deter an invasion then it will result in an invasion, if they try and rebuild their nuclear arsenal to deter an invasion they will get invaded, if they cede the east then it will result in an invasion down the road or being taken over over time via coups/etc, if they just do nothing then their time is still numbered... :(

*EDIT*

Actually I've thought of one option Zelenskyy has, the big players in the west are refusing to help but you can achieve solidarity without big players. He needs to get on the phone to Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova and tell them that if they don't want to share a border with the USSR again they need to send troops/etc to Ukraine now. There's zero chance Putin will invade Ukraine if it's being backed up by five countries four of who are in NATO and the EU.

But what happens if you back a cornered dangerous dog into a corner? It can lash out.

Russia is a very very dangerous dog. What might happen if its pushed too far doesn't bear thinking about.
But at same time. You can't let it steam roll through.

This is a threat.
He doesn't play by modern Western rules.

Hence contrary to arm chair warriors on this forum. I am hoping this is de escalation and that we can freeze this conflict.
In long run, we always win as we’re stable and successful nations.

We can collapse Russia just how we collapsed USSR. Its just a matter of stalling and buying time
We can support separatist movements in Chechnya, bog them down in domestic racial issues, we can bog them down even more in Syria, Africa etc.

Do Kissinger 2.0 and get China to chomp off a huge chunk of Siberia.

Or perhaps fix up Ukraine to the point where Russia will look like North Korea and Ukraine will look like South Korea. We can cover them in great loans and grants. To the point your average Ukranian will make x10 of that of a Russian. Russia will collapse itself as people will see how awful their leadership is. At that point we could simply tax their oil etc to pay for all the issues they caused.

We really could do a number on them without losing or firing a single shot.

The calls to attack Russia head on are counter productive to our success. They are way closer to their red lines than we are especially the US.

I'd like to think everyone wants that. But as time goes by it seems like putin is not backing down.

Russia is such a perfect example of how a rich country has fallen away due to ridiculous leadership. Russia could have been amazing.

Such a shame

Turns out Ukrain has an even more powerful friend than the west, China

Ukrain is one of if not China's most important trading partners

They rely on them for iron ore and food and in return supply them with most of their fuel and energy.

They are longstanding friends an China supports their sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The situation is causing some problems with the Chinese now so not only do they have a problem with the sancions the west will bring them they will also be on the wrong side of China.

So how to the russians save face? Take the rest of Crimea and call it a victory or just turn heels and say they were just doing excersices with Belarus?

Why arent they in Ukrain already, they could take it anytime, has the pressure from China stopped them? It's certainly not Nato they are worried about.

Well it's started it will be interesting to see if the west is all mouth and no balls. I suspect there will be harsh words and Putin will just grin and carry on. :o

On paper maybe but Ukraine isn't their only consideration. The amphibious assault ships have only recently come into play and while not essential significantly increase their options and chances of success. They've spent the last few years readying forces which are relatively expendable, using and/or losing won't result in them having bet the farm - if they are going with this setup only within the last few days has it really been ready.

Don't think OSINT guys have geo-located it yet but looks like here:

They are heading West parallel with the border about 5 miles from it - if they head directly to the border using roads rather than overland about 10 miles.

Moving that amount of heavy howitzers that close to another countries border you are definitely not looking for an off ramp.
