I am wondering how Zelenskyy responds to this. In my opinion, his best move now is just to swallow his pride and forget ever getting this area back and accept the recognition, obviously as a matter of great sadness, but Ukraine as a country has to move on regardless, this can become a massive opportunity to move Ukraine forward. Russia has done this as a big FU to his leadership and his Government. The best recourse in my opinion is to agree a DMZ and a peace and his goal should be to make Ukraine prosperous, first vast swathes of governmental reform is required, cut out the corruption and lobbies as well as Russian interference will be far greatly supported then it was before, become trustworthy with the aim to join the EU or at least a very close trading partner, he would get his revenge by making Ukraine a far better place to live then being part of Russian backed Republic. That's how I think he should proceed, but well, let's see.
Remind me again, why are we getting involved? Since I've been alive it seems as if we've always had some kind of fear, except the 90s:
1970s - nuclear war
1980s - IRA
1990s - we got a break from fear
2000s - muslims
2010s - financial meltdown
2020s - pandemic, ukraine
It's almost as if we're now artificially creating fear, as we're just getting over the pandemic.
Because the UK has achieved its objectives? yeah us?John Bolton said the same the other day on Sky news he said the Germans are pacifists and the French are useless and he was right.
Our last effort was Afghanistan. How does that fit your "we always win" assertion?Hence contrary to arm chair warriors on this forum. I am hoping this is de escalation and that we can freeze this conflict.
In long run, we always win as we’re stable and successful nations.
Not really a shame. Judging by the people we vote for as a country, a majority of UK voters want the UK to go the same way.ussia is such a perfect example of how a rich country has fallen away due to ridiculous leadership. Russia could have been amazing.
Such a shame
Well there is one parallel with WW2. The French are still useless and toothless.
...its telling that Biden calls Macron or Scholz; not Boris.
Europe (which we are no longer a part of)
Problem is UK and US knew it was futile. They understand Putin better. The reality is Putin is not to be negotiated with and it’s best to lay down the consequences and reinforce Ukraine. Instead Macron and Scholz have been ineffective and left embarrassed.I'll give the French and Germans one thing; at least they seriously tried wtih diplomacy; all our PM and Foreign Sec have done is go on a succession of expensive photo opportunities to absolutley zero benefit to anyway; this whole situation has started to show how degraded Britain is as a world power quite frankly; its telling that Biden calls Macron or Scholz; not Boris.
