Let's be honest the only way you can take out Russian artillery is with counter batteries or airstrikes.

Ukraine won't be able to get their planes up to delivery the necessary fight back so the Russian artillery will fire unimpeded.

Should get some magnetic Apple Air tags painted green and chuck them at the convoys as they move about. Find my Howitzer.

The key really is having a good level of information and communications, which Russia would be looking to disrupt, so as to outmanoeuvre the ability to bring artillery to bare and then maybe attack it from the ground. Very idealistic though.

I wonder what would happen if they all wanted to be a part of India, I guess I wonder the same of Northern Ireland. If the vast majority of Northern Ireland decided that they dont want Northern Ireland to be part of the UK anymore, would we try to stop them?

I suppose in some ways thats the Scotland referendum for independence scenario, if Scotland were to vote for independence, would we allow them independence or refuse it
Nope, it's part of the GFA that if both sides of Ireland vote for reunification it will happen.

You've got to remember Europe is reliant on Russian gas as well, that plays into all of this. I think this will turn out just like Crimea, only thing that will stop whats happening is proper war, but the EU and America isnt going to war over people who are Russian living in eastern Ukraine

Let them cut off gas. It will be hard for one season and we might need to nationalise energy production companies to stop price rises. But this situation cannot stand in the third decade of the twenty first century.
It is as idiotic as if Mexico annexed California or Poland annexed London Acton. Some psychotic old school KGB excrement is waving his tiny junk about a map on the table while the rest of us is already half way to a Star Trek style Federation of Planets. Squish the cockroach, Russian Army has the lowest morale in Asia, offer them enough money and they'll do it themselves by the morning.

Does Ukraine have any serious stuff like battleships, subs, cruise missiles?

Navy wise nothing of note really, we were in the process of transferring/selling them some basic stuff - but mostly offshore patrol kind of level.

They do have a raft of longer range artillery/missile systems but Russia has them outgunned likely on that front - depending somewhat on how well or not they can provide protection from the air.

Easier said than done when our governments rely on the vote to stay in power

Yeah they had a navy in crimea

Had being the key word lol

900k currently within 5 years https://www.forces.net/news/numbers-how-does-ukraines-military-stack-against-russias

They have been preparing them for a while since about April last year it seems from a quick Google search. At least 100k were already called up it appears too.

According to this it's only around 180k troops being called up + they have to mobilise them and get to the front lines while Russia has already decided where the front lines will be and are ready to go now

So does the Ukraine not actually control enough of their own country to put armed forces in positions on the border, or actually just throw a huge pre-emptive strike on Russian positions.
If it's almost guaranteed theres going to be a invasion, you might as well start the war now.

Any fight that you are on the back foot is not a fight you'll win, so why give them the upper hand of waiting for the inevitable.. The winner write the history books.

Jesus..

Former US President Donald Trump has called Vladimir Putin’s orders to send troops into Ukraine "genius".

Appearing on a right-wing radio show, Trump was asked about President Biden’s response to Putin’s sending military forces into Ukraine.

“I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, ‘This is genius,’” Trump said.

“Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine - of Ukraine. Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful. So, Putin is now saying, ‘It’s independent,’ a large section of Ukraine.

"I said, ‘How smart is that?’ And he’s gonna go in and be a peacekeeper. That’s strongest peace force … We could use that on our southern border”.

The Republican former president continued to praise Putin later on, while disparaging his successor.

“You gotta say that’s pretty savvy. And you know what the response was from Biden? There was no response.”

Imagine thinking you are a patriotic American by supporting this piece of **** ^

Ahem erm technically America did just that to get California to begin with.

They dont want to shoot first.

That want to show they tried everything to use political means. They may retaliate but they won't launch first.

That’s good to know. Not at the stage to go for the full 900k yet. Not that it will be the max they could go. They could do a full 18-41 call up which would be huge and imagine where the martial law would be required.
