Jesus..

Former US President Donald Trump has called Vladimir Putin’s orders to send troops into Ukraine "genius".

Appearing on a right-wing radio show, Trump was asked about President Biden’s response to Putin’s sending military forces into Ukraine.

“I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, ‘This is genius,’” Trump said.

“Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine - of Ukraine. Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful. So, Putin is now saying, ‘It’s independent,’ a large section of Ukraine.

"I said, ‘How smart is that?’ And he’s gonna go in and be a peacekeeper. That’s strongest peace force … We could use that on our southern border”.

The Republican former president continued to praise Putin later on, while disparaging his successor.

“You gotta say that’s pretty savvy. And you know what the response was from Biden? There was no response.”

Imagine thinking you are a patriotic American by supporting this piece of **** ^

You might not have any love for the guy, but he's not wrong though is he? It was a genius move by Putin, he's got the west between a rock and a hard place, and we cant respond with force. Poor Ukraine is the only real loser here though.

So does the Ukraine not actually control enough of their own country to put armed forces in positions on the border, or actually just throw a huge pre-emptive strike on Russian positions.
If it's almost guaranteed theres going to be a invasion, you might as well start the war now.

Any fight that you are on the back foot is not a fight you'll win, so why give them the upper hand of waiting for the inevitable.. The winner write the history books.

Best thing they can do is say they will never join NATO and beg Russia not turn their country into a pile of rubble

That's more about a quip aimed at Biden via a compare and contrast statement.

The previous guy thinks a lot of Putin and apparently it wouldn't have happened if he'd won  The Russian Federation flag would have been flying of Kiev weeks ago if he was still in charge. Zelenskyy knows all about Trump's offers of help that come with "conditions".

Ukraine is a horrible place to defence, albeit also a horrible place to assault if the conditions aren't right as well. The only natural defensive terrain is along the west side of the country. There aren't even any bottlenecks that can be fallen back to (well aside from the Dnieper but that is problematic in itself especially as Russia is positioned from Belarus as well as the east).

Interestingly enough Putin said a way out of this situation is if Ukraine itself proclaims to be neutral and pledges not to join NATO. But then again that would mean trusting words, which is obviously out of the question.

I wonder what would happen if they all wanted to be a part of India, I guess I wonder the same of Northern Ireland. If the vast majority of Northern Ireland decided that they dont want Northern Ireland to be part of the UK anymore, would we try to stop them?

I suppose in some ways thats the Scotland referendum for independence scenario, if Scotland were to vote for independence, would we allow them independence or refuse it

We are currently blocking Scotland from holding another referendum.

"Don't do anything to make it difficult for me to invade and I won't invade"...

Its funny because despite the constant argument that the rUK is "propping up" Scotland; Westminster seems very desperate to keep hold of us; that said if a legal referendum voted for it I'm sure we would be allowed to go; not sure how we get it though!
I don't think I've ever heard much of an argument from anyone (in the UK) suggesting that they would even fight that hard to keep NI if it voted to leave and join Ireland.... obviously the DUP and loyalists, etc might have something to say....

I personally would allow both NI and Scotland independence if they wanted it. I cant see the point in forcing an area of your country to stay in your country if it doesnt want to be. Strikes me thats a path to trouble down the line, so I'm all for Scotland to have another vote on it, but I digress from the thread somewhat

And a total capitulation to a vicious bully

Of course they'd come with conditions. They're not a NATO member and it costs money to fight wars. We didn't get US assistance in WW2 for free either. The US also did rather well out of operation paper clip and rehoming nazi scientists to further their own war machine.

No it wont man. All the energy in the world, loads of gold reserves and one the smallest debt to gdp percentages in the world. They'll be fine
Worthless if no one will trade with them except China and a bunch of dictatorships. A country the size of Russia needs the global trade.
