So do we think Ukraine will put up a fight, or they'll roll over?

I'm thinking they'll probably fight well, especially after all of the stuff they've been sent?

People talking about nuclear weapons being used must be either mental or 7 years old.

So which one is Putin because he's brought them up quite frequently the past weeks and implied use of them to anyone who try stop his "liberation" of Ukraine

So this is just Ukraine vs Russia, no one else helping either side other than sanctions?

Belarus have been helping Russia, some unconfirmed reports special forces snuck into Kiev main airport via Turkish Air Force

Pakistan Leader Imran Khan also coincidentally meeting with Putin when all this kicked off too

No idea what got hit and started cooking but I hope it's Russian

Russia needs to get Ukraine to lay down their weapons and have Russian security forces take over. Just look at the fake news their tolls are putting out. Russia wants Ukraine, and the Ukrainian people to be part of Russia again, not obliterate it from existence.

Too much death and destruction and the weak will flee, and the strong will fight to the last man.
Pretty much.

Depending on how excitable you want to get, this will likely range anywhere from 'Russia takes some land, everything settles down and gets forgotten about' all the way through to 'this is like Germany invading the Sudetenland in 1938, full scale world war is coming when Putin goes full Hitler and rolls tanks into Warsaw'

I think they'll fight, and many young men will die. But, against Russia I just can't see them being able to hold. Russia won't fight a fair fight. I'd expect them to orchestrate a coup de tar if it goes too far.

Just sanctions.

However they had a former NATO defence chief (may be wrong job title but high up) on Peston last night and he was saying we really need to take seriously the threat that Putin has lost his mind and unlike other leaders he has no one to keep him in check. He was asked if NATO forces could end up involved in all this and was pretty bleak about it.

Guess the best outcome we can hope for now is that Russia stops with the control of these breakaway regions and keeps it "peacekeeping" rhetoric.

But his aim is to demilitarise Ukraine, surprised there hasn't been more strikes on units dug in now they've revelead their positions in order to push RU forces back

This sort of thing has surprised me, is it due to some attempt/hope that things won't escalate further or not wanting to give Putin more excuses if he is just bombing and going for a more limited land grab in the East? But they're being very restrained!!!

Like there was Ukrainian CCTV of Russian tanks rolling in, single file, along a road from Crimea, immediately had me wondering WTF? Why is that road not shelled/bombed to **** already?

Ditto to this story re: the Russian ships... like you're already under attack from Russia, you've spotted Russian navy ships off your coast, you have a capable anti-shipping missile system and Turkish drones with which to locate them... they're quite likely to do you damage at some point in the near future - now might be the time to destroy a few of them!

I guess it is a strategic decision or something re: not escalating and acting defensively only?

Also, I really hope the UK NLAWs, US Javelins and stingers were already distributed and weren't all in that big military warehouse that got blown up!

Harrowing scenes this morning, but not a surprise.

Nuclear weapons mean our hands are tied. We’ll stand at the back shouting “Naughty Russia!” instead.

The incoming sanctions could be key. Russia needs to effectively be cut off from the world, seize all assets in the West.
Yep those scantions need to be swift, hard and all at once to have any impact on getting Russia to think twice. Ban the ruble, cut them off from the world's banking system, ban all exports to Russia and it's allies, isolate and choke them as much possible.

Looked like 20-30mm rounds hitting to the right, those pedestrians lucky they weren't aimed a little more their way.

So far a lot less destruction than the gulf war, just saying

Given the circumstances and being a big unknown how the next hours and days unfold that is a bit of a weird comment to make.

100 percent my view.

Has he lost it?
Is there no one to stop him?
Will he be satisfied with the unspoken bargain ofletting him have Ukraine.

Or will he carry on
