I think people need to calm down with nuke panicking. We’re a million miles off that yet and I’m not even convinced his top bods would let him use them if they thought he was losing the plot. They don’t want their family and friends dead.

We will build up NATO forces in the area though. Putin moaning about being under threat is now going to see a lot more military hardware getting closer to its borders.
Ukraine is just first step. Overall goal is to take back everything under the Soviet banner

I’m absolutely heart broken for Ukraine.
It looked like war will happen, but I’m in disbelief and just wept this morning for Ukrainians.
I hope this will end Putin and his regime. But at what cost!!!
I have no words and just feel numb.
Spoke to my brother in Russia this morning and he’s just a product of his environment and propaganda… some twisted reasoning why the invasion may be justified…
My fathers side is from Ukraine and our Ukrainian grandma lives with them… Good thing she has dementia and will not witness this horror.

He is around 70 years old. He probably wants to leave a legacy of sorts and/or enjoy being at the top table in a war.

They should have done this when Russia took Crimea and refused to give it back
only legacy he will leave is that of a dictator, thats all we need to know

Ukraine has been moving "Westward" toward Europe since its independence from the USSR in 1991 and was never really under "Putin's thumb" - why shouldn't the people of Ukraine have been free to choose their own path away from Russia/Soviets?
They were heading for the EU and NATO long before 8 years ago
So Russia has a genuine concern with NATO surrounding its borders?

Basically Ukraine got sold lies and propaganda of western support and elected the wrong people in power who had unlimited funding from the west and violated treaties going back to 1945. NATO eventually wanted to pull a move similar to Russia installing missiles in Cuba.
Russia said NOPE. Now Ukrainians are suffering and the West can't do anything. Europe is facing an existential crisis, it needs to distance itself from other parties across the Atlantic and work with it's neighbors that shares borders with.
