Had a few tears this morning.

Ukraine has largely become a 2nd home for me. Although not spending a lot of time there, I have visited every year except 2020 since 2014.

A friend of mine asking if anyone else heard thuds in Kiev this morning. A man on the radio this morning unable to leave his home with a sick wife and 2 year old child.

How anyone still thinks we should stay out of this I don't know. When we hear of wars in distant countries, it doesn't really strike the same chord as when you have friends asking about shelling and talking about places being attacked you were only there a few months ago.

Terrible. No more to say on this.

NATO ambassdors should have held an emergency meeting last week when they first said he was going to attack, apparently he was going to attack but he held off to discredit intelligence, no idea whether true but it's plausible although the date he attacked today is significant in terms of Ukraine war.

This is a very different Putin to the Putin we've been used to the previous decades, he's actually showing emotion, sounds very angry and his words, well we've called his bluff before with sanctions and he invaded anyway, I don't think he's bluffing on the threats to anyone who helps either

We/America stuck Nukes on their borders, have forward bases close to them, and then tried to close off one of their points of access to the sea by getting close to Ukraine. That's just the stuff that is in the open. God knows what else goes on behind closed doors.

see below.

Now I want you to explain why you think the west is not hostile.

Or, god forbid, the people of Ukraine wanted closer ties to the West? Heaven forbid they think for themselves. I haven't seen any mass protests since, have you?

Some apologists on here talking like Russia had no choice but to invade a sovereign nation that literally posed zero threat to them. Obviously and clearly the opposite being true. They'll probably throw out some whataboutisms about Iraq or Afghanistan not understanding that saying that makes them hypocrites too.

It's amazing how many pro Putin idiots have come out of the woodwork, just like him they are all crazy fools.

Leaving aside the questionable accuracy of these claims, how does any of it justify Russia's invasion of Ukraine? Shouldn't Putin be attacking us instead?

Russia being massive can basically do what they want around that area and indeed do what they want. The only possible outcome here is Ukraine becomes a Belarus style satellite Russian state and that will be that for the foreseeable future.

Putin loyal Russians owning half of London yet this UK government very unlikely to sanction anyone that matters

Oh didnt you hear? When the West invades a country its bad, but when Russia does its good xD

No-one said that Russia had no choice but it's important to understand what led Russia to do what it's doing right now instead of just calling Putin a madman.

He wasn't bluffing, that video was recorded 3 days ago... all the stuff about Macron getting concessions and arranging a further talk etc.. was a total LARP as was the UN meeting, he'd already decided to invade, the orders had already been given... his invasion announcement video already pre-recorded.

He is a mad man though? There isn't much to understand here, this is just Russian imperialism. There was no threat of invasion by Ukraine or NATO, he just wanted Ukraine back in the Russian sphere of influence, he views Ukraine a few other countries as satellite states which owe their allegiance to Russia that's all.

Highly surprised at this and very saddened

I fear its going to escalate

Basically all my neighbours are gone so US clearly at high readiness
I've seen a couple come home for an hour or so here and there in 48 hours. Suspect just picking up gear.

Mildenhall was noisy yesterday, quiet today

Indeed, look at how long it took for the Government to release the Russian interference in British politics report to see how deep they are involved in the politics of our country

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligence_and_Security_Committee_Russia_report

According to the report, there is substantial evidence that Russian interference in British politics is commonplace.[3][4] According to the Guardian, the main points of the report are:[2]

  • UK government failed to investigate evidence of successful interference in democratic processes
  • ‘Credible open-source commentary’ suggesting Russia sought to influence Scottish independence referendum
  • Russian influence in the UK is ‘the new normal’
  • Links between Russian elite and UK politics
  • Intelligence community ‘took its eye off the ball’ on Russia
  • UK’s paper-and-pencil voting system makes direct interference harder
  • Defending UK’s democratic processes is a ‘hot potato’
  • Errors in Salisbury poisoning and weapons watchdog hack do not diminish Moscow threat
  • New legislation needed to replace outdated spy laws.

More this unfolds more concern I have it may not stop with Ukraine.

I don't know. I'm just getting this mentally unstable vibe from putins outward broadcasts
