I am not pro-EU by any means, but compare the GDP of The Ukraine (non-EU) and Poland (EU). Both started at roughly the same level in 1990. Based on that evidence alone, you ought to realise membership of the EU would massively improve the Ukrainian economy.

If you're still in any doubt, consider Belarus. They have been pretty much swallowed up by Russia and how are they doing?

All the eastern nations who joined the EU experienced a huge boom in their economy. Those that didn't join remain in the gutter.

No rational person could argue that joining Russia with an economy on par with Italy could be a better choice than joining a trading bloc the size of the EU.

I have to agree with this, I moved to the Czech Republic back in early 2000. The country is now flying compared to where it was back then. There is a huge middle class now, there is a good public transport, good health care, good school and people generally have a decent life.

Many people have managed to make a lot of money during the massive economic boom until the GFC.

The USA is protecting the US Dollar as world reserve currency, they have been living off the back of the rest of the world since WW2.

Iraq switched to selling oil in Euro's in 2000, they got invaded despite having nothing to do with 9/11 then quickly switched back to selling in USD post-invasion despite it being worse for their own economy.

Iran has been threatenening to do the same and have received lots of threats from the USA.

Libya, Gaddafi was trying to get African nations to switch to a gold backed currency.

The BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) have all started trading together in their own currencies.

Studies have estimated the economic value of the dollar being the major reserve currency as being approx 0.3 - 0.5% of US GDP. The cost of the Iraq war alone would ensure that it would take them decades to recoup that benefit.

Your argument doesn't stack up.

So basically, very unlikely to be true.

Err...What? So very quickly dismissive. The reports are based upon what the Estonian minister said in a phone call based upon what he found out while be was in Ukraine. But hey, that's just dismiss it as it doesn't entirely fit in with your pre-determined view.

Sounds to me like a scooby doo episode

Russia Today is one of the worst possible news sources available. Half of the articles it publishes are written by crackpots who have no credibility in the West whatsoever.

There are plenty of credible Russian news sites, but as they are not half as bombastic as RT, they never get sourced.

Do you have any National Enquirer articles you'd like to link us too perhaps? Maybe a story about aliens impregnating someone..?

We cannot independently verify, but there are reports in Russia that the snipers who shot at protesters and police in Kiev were hired by Maidan leaders, according to a leaked phone conversation between the EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton and Estonian foreign affairs minister. Russia Today, the Kremlin-funded news channel made the claim. Baroness Ashton had no comment when approached by Bruno Waterfield, our correspondent in Brussels.

RT is a propaganda tool and it's used intensively during "times of trouble" for the Russian Govt. :

In the field of propaganda, the muppets on Fox News are kindergardeners in comparison.

I dismiss so quickly it because its source is Russia Today, who throughout this crisis have stirred up the pot my making stories like these up. No-one has verified these stories as of yet and until they do I will treat it with the contempt it deserves.

How does the Estonian Foreign Minister know that Maidan protest leaders ordered the snipers? Why is he telling Baroness Ashton? Which Maidan protest leaders? Why would the Ukrainian police snipers follow their orders? The old adage applies here - "if looks like bull ****, and smells like bull **** then it probably is bull ****".

The Telegraph are discussing something from RT, no?

Yeah but it was a Telegraph link posted and they have added their own information, none of which is really conclusive either way, they spoke to a doctor who was on the scene but they only treated the rioters who had been hit by snipers not the police (who it is claimed had the same wounds) so cannot confirm/deny anything.

So take it with a pinch of salt, but it's not just RT investigating the claims.

Remember when Edward Snowden (currently guest of Vladimir Putin) leaked information that showed the USA was recording phone conversations of senior ministers in other countries. Everyone agreed this was a bad thing. So where is the condemnation for whoever recorded a phone conversation between the Estonian Foreign Minster and the EU Foreign Affairs Spokeswoman?

I've found news sources like RT are good at reporting a few things hidden by the western media, but absolutely useless when reporting problems related to the home regions.

Essentially you can't really truth any nations state media at all, but even more-so when they talk about themselves.

Nations spy - I think we're all over that now.
