Hmm, maybe Vladimir Putin is right, sometimes freedom of speech is a bad thing.

Coming from you scorza, that is very rich indeed. Your posts clearly show you have a sub 100 IQ, where as mine is 150. Stop weaseling, if you haven't got anything constructive to add to the topic, say nothing. You seem more intelligent that way.

What part does someone get shot from behind on that video? Some scenes show people getting shot from the front, and other scenes are inconclusive because of the low resolution.

State the time in the video where's it's "obvious" and I will take another look.

Likewise, and that doesn't even consider the fact a sniper could actually just be behind them...

But who am I to argue with a blurry video on YouTube.

Let me explain something that you haven't managed to grasp. The back, is the side which the person is not shielding. -snip- Why you keep saying it is from the front is completely beyond me.

Because the bullet travelled through the man and the shield, and the bullet hole in the shield is bent inwards, this means it came from the front through the shield and then proceed to travel trough the man and out the back. The exact opposite of what the video "claims".

BBC:

10:09: Crimea's parliament has unanimously voted in favour of becoming part of Russia, the RIA news agency quoted by Reuters says.

This has always been the most likely solution, can Ukraine actually stop them? And should they?

They have actually voted in favour of holding a referendum on the 16th of asking Russia if they can join, instead of the independence referendum at the end of the month.

------------

To be fair this is most likely due to today's escalation in threatening behaviour from Kiev, the new Ukrainian government have defiantly invited this however it may work out for them as I would guess less Crimean's will vote to join Russia than would have voted to leave Ukraine in the independence referendum.

On top of the fact that a red line on a video is not an accurate way to show which way a bullet travels. The trajectory does get affected when hitting bone, so an upward exit for the bullet is possible.

This is pretty surreal, it kind of shows how hectic things can get when communications break down.

The Crimean government won't talk to the new Ukrainian government because they claim they are illegitimate as they seized power in a coup.

The new Ukrainian government won't talk to the Crimean government because they don't acknowledge them and insist on speaking to Russia who keep telling them to talk to Crimea.

And the whole thing has just been escalating and escalating lol.

Well it's going through a referendum.

Sneaky sneaky:

The referendum would ask two questions. "The first is: Are you for the inclusion of Crimea into the Russian Federation as a subject of the federation? The second: Are you for the restoration of the constitution for Crimea of 1992?"

So basically they are asking if Crimea should join Russia, then asking if it should join Ukraine. As only 25% of the population is ethnic Ukrainian and 60% ethnic Russian this is either going to result in a majority for Russia, or failing that a majority against Ukraine (which means independence).

Questions on Ukraine the West chooses not to answer

1. Why did the opposition oust Yanukovich after he conceded to their demands?
2. Why is the coup-appointed govt replacing oligarchs linked to Yanukovich with... oligarchs?
3. Why did the post-coup parliament strip Russian language of its regional status?
4. Why did Kiev attack the Constitutional Court?
5. Why would the West support the coup in Ukraine?

Why when there is political process and an election due in 2015 did they have ro start now? It's not like Syria where there was barely a political process and possibly empty promises of a fair election in some point in the future. ..?

Reminds me of that Iraqi presidential election where 99% of voters voted for Saddam Hussein, who was the only candidate. I question whether any vote taken in a parliament should be considered valid when there are foreign troops stationed inside and outside of that parliament. I don't believe that the population of Crimea is 100% ethnic Russian so a unanimous vote is rather dubious. What about the Crimean Tatars? or the ethnic Ukrainian population - surely the make up of the Crimean parliament should represent them too.

Russia being allowed to annex the Crimean peninsular was always going to be an obvious compromise, problem is that no-one will be willing to blink first until the game has been played out a bit longer.

Because it doesn't show that. How can you say it does with such a low frame rate? The two impacts happen on the exact frame so you can't see which way it came from.

The red line can be completely ignored, because if the bullet hit the tree first, it's trajectory would not be flat.

IIRC Crimea is 60% Russian, 25% Ukrainian, 12.5% Tatar.

Classic. :D

Regarding these new "elections", let me remind everyone that the Crimea was leadership was changed under gun point. It won't surprise anyone after the votes are in and 99% are for joining Russia, again under gun point.

OK let me get those for you (although you could have just as well provided the link to the RT article).

1. Because the ordinary people doing the legwork were not happy that the deal had been made (the opposition leaders were shouted down when telling them theyd made the deal), did not pack up and go home and said they would not stop until yanukovich was toppled. So they didnt.

2. Because, as with every other movement in history, theyre both run by the people who have the money to run such things.

3. You might have noticed this whole thing started because Yanukovich cosied up to Russia and began acting dictatorial. Silly move on reflection, but understandable.

4. Because in 2010 they overturned the 2004 constitution amendments to the benefit of Yanukovich, shifting power back to the president and away from parliament.

5. Because it always supports democracy. Its a democratic thing.

Really, RT could have just googled all of this.

If you feel damage is being done now that will take years to undo, how can you wait?

The only damage I've seen was suffered by the Ukrainians who were shot in the streets. There's no emergency for the people of Crimea, it's only Putin that's in a hurry - he knows he can't keep his occupying troops on the field without severe international consequences.
