According to the memorandum, Russia, the U.S., and the UK confirmed, in recognition of Ukraine becoming party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and in effect abandoning its nuclear arsenal to Russia, that they would:
  1. Respect Ukrainian independence and sovereignty within its existing borders.
  2. Refrain from the threat or use of force against Ukraine.
  3. Refrain from using economic pressure on Ukraine in order to influence its politics.
  4. Seek United Nations Security Council action if nuclear weapons are used against Ukraine.
  5. Refrain from the use of nuclear arms against Ukraine.
  6. Consult with one another if questions arise regarding these commitments.

OK, you were talking about Ukrainian nuclear disarmament. Fro your post I thought you were claiming the UK and USA weren't disarming the nukes they were supposed to be.

Yes I was aware of the treaty signed between UK, USA, Ukraine and Russia. As far as I was aware though, there was no suggestion that the UK, USA or the Ukraine had failed to meet any of those clauses.

How about Russia?

  1. Respect Ukrainian independence and sovereignty within its existing borders.
  2. Refrain from the threat or use of force against Ukraine.

I think the USA and UK should put 40,000 troops, and a thousand tanks, and 100+ fighter aircraft at one of the bases near Kiev.

That was the point I was implying ;) What was your point again?

I don't, the last thing we need is to further inflame the situation. However it might not be a bad idea to bolster NATO assets in Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Wires crossed... Crossed wires?

This is why I said the UK and USA are a bunch of pussys, if this was Iran invading Iraq taking back something they lost in a previous war or whatever, the USA, UK would be all over them like Chicken Pox!

Because Russia has nukes, everyone backs down because they are pussys, Russia / Putin knows this and gives it the big one thinking they Jack the lad.

It's about time Obama and snobby "lardy daa, oh yah" Cameron grew some testicles like water melons instead of having a pair of kidney beans and did something about it.

I bet if John F Kennedy or the Bush continuum or Ronnie Raygun were the President, they wouldn't mess about, troops into Ukraine, backed with tanks and fighter aircraft.

Well I think that the Ukrainian economy won't be able to afford a nuclear weapons programme. Do you have a source for the UK and USA not sticking to any commitments made on nuclear disarmament?

Well they have the ability to make ICBM's, hell the R-36 ICBM of which Russia has 75 was designed/constructed in Ukraine. As for something to put in it, just send some patriotic chap off to Chernobyl with a bucket and spade :P even if it's not weapons grade the threat of it landing in Moscow would be a deterrent and deterrent is the whole point of nukes.

Armed men attempted to seize a Ukrainian military post in Crimea.
Around 20 pro-Russian militants stormed the missile defence airbase in two transporter trucks and entered into negotiations with the Ukrainian commander of the airbase, while soldiers guarding it locked themselves in their barracks.
Around 100 Ukrainian troops are understood to be stationed at the base, where the tense stand-off was eventually resolved.
The militants clambered back into their trucks and drove away from the scene.
Sky's Robert Nisbet, in Sevastopol, said: "A confrontation like this is worrying when tensions are so high. Any moment that involves a confrontation is a potential flashpoint."

Stay classy Russia.

I don't know what your smoking but the Ukraine is an area that Russia will never relinquish as its the only easy geographic area that an invasion force could enter Russia unimpeded by physical obstructions ie mountain ranges. If you had bothered to read any history you would know the last time the Germans invaded they did so from the Ukraine area as its flat and easy to transverse with speed. Its also of far too much strategic importance especially with its warm water port.

Incidentally if you feel the need, stick a Right Sector uniform on and grab a rifle and get on with it.

The US and UK will never do a thing as they know Russia are willing to go to war,its all bluff and blunder with the only ones suffering being the people of Ukraine stuck between two opposing ideologies.

Eh? Who is going to invade Russia? It's 2014 not 1941! Surprise surprise, Russia didn't have Nuclear weapons back then....

No one would dare invade Russia now, and if Ukraine hadn't give up theirs, this woudn't be happening now...

I dunno, you would think that if Russia took Crimean so easily then if the Ukraine had descended into chaos the suffered an anti-Russia coup while still having nukes they would have been straight in to seize bases.

They still have significant nuclear capabilities - ready access to uranium, the remnants of a military program (though most of the equipment is gone), civilian programs still operational and a ton of expertise still exists in the country in no small part thanks to chernobyl. Whether loyalties, infrastructure and organisation issues, etc. would hamper it is another matter but on paper they could rearm for nuclear far quicker than just about any other country in the world.

Russia does not see it that way, your missing the point.Military strategy is dictated by history and history has shown its a weakness in their defense, what part don't you understand?

The nuclear issue is just ridiculous, the Ukrainians could never have afforded to maintain them.

Incidentally Russia have a long standing agreement to have troops in the Ukraine they didn't invade it,and what are you proposing to do with the population that decides to side with Russia?Maybe hand them over to Neo Nazis in power in Kiev?

Well of course Russia don't see it that way, that's Russia for you. Anyway they haven't invaded Eastern Ukraine yet! Let's see if they are willing to give up what they don't have... If they do the UK and USA will be pussys and do nothing anyway.

Waste of time Ukraine losing it's Nukes, waste of time joining a Non-Proliferation Treaty.

They should have at least kept a few SS-24 on the go as a deterrent.

Russia had Ukraine right where they wanted them... quote "In 1999 Ukraine exchanged eight Tu-160 and three Tu-95MS with Russia for its gas debts. Another nine Tu-160 and 21 Tu-95MS were destroyed, while one example of each plane were placed in a museum in Poltava."

Well according to reports their is 30,000 troops now in Crimea, the agreement was no more than 25,000?

Edit: I said about a week or two ago Crimea should just join Russia. For what it's worth, if Crimea want a referendum to join Russia then let them.

As for Neo-Nazis, well they are even in Russia, and you watch far too much Russia Today... :D

I didn't believe that until I Googled it, that's treasonous levels of incompetence right there...

Even if Russia wouldn't buy them (which they would have if Ukraine weren't asking a price so silly it was cheaper to build new) I am sure the US or China would have been interested.

You just don't scrap out arguably the worlds best bomber just out of spite... O.o

Reports also say NK landed a man on the sun ;)
