So yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if he's there as controlled opposition (not literally a puppet, but chosen because they can "control" the response to him). He raises his profile amongst anti-war guys, pro-war guys feel better watching him get humiliated and, deliberately or accidentally, he helps steer the conversation away from casualties, and towards isolation.
We'd need to see the rest of it, but I'd expect she'd try to bog him down in semantics. Well put and probably correct. It worries me that people seem to collate Russia's failings on the battlefield with those of the 'secret world' as Le Cárre put it. One could make the argument that no country on earth does espionage better (both domestically and internationally) then Russia. Cultural persuasion has been a key policy for the better part of a century. I doubt that any subterfuge is tolerated internally unless it can be spun to fit a specific narrative that works for them.

They literally just proved they can't be trusted, yet another time by saying they wouldn't prisoner swap the ukr soldiers by declaring the ukr azov battalion a terror organisation. They did this RIGHT AFTER the surrender was complete.
