Would like to see any replies to that on the program. Plant an opposing 'reasoned' argument that gives voice to some of the rumor's that have filtered through then systematically destroy it through rhetoric.
That's how it looks to me, too. She (Olga Skabeyeva) was speaking Russian, but I couldn't help the feeling I was hearing a Fiona Bruce or LBC presenter. She first interrupts with a "both sides" for "balance" when Mikhail goes off script (Ukraine lacking financing/arms is a big factor you can't leave out).

Then later on puts an absurd yes/no question to the guest (is a desire to die for one's country professionalism) to derail the talk. I've seen it time and time again. Journalists everywhere on these panel shows use the same tactics regardless of language, to the point where I don't watch/listen to them.

So yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if he's there as controlled opposition (not literally a puppet, but chosen because they can "control" the response to him). He raises his profile amongst anti-war guys, pro-war guys feel better watching him get humiliated and, deliberately or accidentally, he helps steer the conversation away from casualties, and towards isolation.

We'd need to see the rest of it, but I'd expect she'd try to bog him down in semantics. Maybe pop off another "innocent" yes/no question, so the headlines tomorrow discuss it rather than challenge Mikhail's points. It's funny, because it looks so organic, till you're absolutely against what they're peddling, i.e. invasion.

Well put and probably correct. It worries me that people seem to collate Russia's failings on the battlefield with those of the 'secret world' as Le Cárre put it. One could make the argument that no country on earth does espionage better (both domestically and internationally) then Russia. Cultural persuasion has been a key policy for the better part of a century. I doubt that any subterfuge is tolerated internally unless it can be spun to fit a specific narrative that works for them.

Very interesting Twitter thread here, showing how Russian media is gradually conceding that this war is not going Putin's way.

In an extremely rare moment of candour on Russian state TV today, defence columnist Mikhail Khodaryonok gave a damning assessment of Russia's war in Ukraine and his country's international isolation.

Many of you have seen this video, in which Mikhail Khodaryonok gives a damning assessment of Russia's war. 20 days before the war started he wrote an article forecasting almost everything that would happen and slamming Russian optimism.

Guy made a lot of good calls. Even entertained the idea of another WW2 style lend-lease.

Surprised to see there was no mention of the Ukranians getting kitted out with NLAWS right after Crimea, and how this training has been cascaded down over the years. More so given his opinion on urban warfare. I think Russian hubris, is so boundless that this operation was probably laughed off the table, (lol, 'tiny' island) assuming it was considered at all that it.

Mykola Kulichenko (left) claimed he was hauled out of his house along with his brothers in the village of Dovzhyk, close to the north eastern city of Chernihiv, by Putin's forces on March 18 - just two weeks before the Russian army retreated from the region. They underwent three days of brutal interrogation before being shot. His brothers died immediately, but Mykola miraculously survived after the bullet pierced his cheek and exited behind his ear, causing relatively minor damage. The trio were thrown into a pit (top right) and lightly covered in dirt after Mykola played dead - but he later managed to wriggle free and avoid a slow, painful death from asphyxiation.
