whats their idle temp?

Have you got the fans on auto?

Currently they're both idling at 32C. I'm using MSI Afterburner profiler to regulate the fan speeds at the moment, but I've never really used it before so it's good old trial and error to try and get the right balance at the moment .

maybe -10 is enough power for full performance?

It depends entirely upon the application, Heaven is quite demanding but there might be something in the future which requires a tweak to the threshold which may be why AMD have put this rather unnecessary dual-BIOS thing on in case BIOS updates are required.

Just flashed this HIS 6950 to a HIS 6970. Not changed any clocks or power settings so just running as a vanilla 6970. All seems fine, no artifacts.

What I would like to know before o decide to buy is
1 what are the long term effects of this flash with the psu connectors
2 does the warranty still count with a 6970 bios

No one knows the long term effects for sure, but most think it's fine.

I can't see why it wouldn't. It's designed to allow you to mess with the bios. OCUK also allow you to overclock withing warranty, so why not.

Easy, i noticed you are running the older drivers( 8.79 or something, 10.11 catalyst) while i am on a newer set (8.801, 10.12a catalyst) which i think are the prefered drivers. Any chance you can install the newer drivers and see if you get even more of a boost?
