**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

If you get a mobile fitting, what do you guys do about getting wheel alignment done? Do you go to a local garage at a later date?

Im thinking of giving Halfords tyres on the drive a go, anyone used them?

Mobile fitter will generally balance the tyres, you shouldn't need alignment done due to fitting alone.

Im just checking prices at the moment, on some sites it suggest TPMS valve servicing is that something I should get done?

Also does anyone know how much space mobile fitters require to fit tyres?
Not got a huge drive, just live in a semi detached house.

Is that with fitting?

Im looking at the PS5s as well unsure best place to get them fitted. I was going to try Black Circles but the garage I was going to use is no longer on there site.

Nope, I went to a local specialist as I've got some forged wheels that I'm very particular about so didn't want to hazard a chance with anywhere new :)
Usual cost is between £15-20 a corner from what I've found. Specialist charged me £80 for all 4 fitted and balanced.

Depends on the car, a lot of cars use TPMS through the ABS, typically called "indirect" TPMS. If that's the case then no need servicing them.

Otherwise, you can normally just leave your TPMS valve in situ without the need to mess with it, and just replace the tyres as normal. The servicing aspect usually just makes sure they're sealed properly rather than a full replacement.

Space wise will depend a lot on the fitter but at least enough room to walk down the sides and get a jack under at whatever points - some might want more. We had one at work recently who didn't even bother to wait for us to get the keys and move the van into an open spot just started jacking it up setting the alarm off with about a foot of space each side... their quality of work overall was poor leaving oil/grease marks all over the side of the van - needless to say they got blacklisted. Generally though they've been alright.

TPMS servicing I won't bother unless you've had problems and/or the tyres/TPMS haven't been changed in a really long time.

Thanks well my car is a 2019 Fiesta, as yet not replaced the tyres, should I still leave it?

So can anyone advise before I potentially waste my money its £6.99 for each wheel tpms service, I think they replace the valve stem. IF my car is a 2019 plate, as yet never replaced tyres is it best to get to done when replacing all 4 tyres?

Tyre prices have increased hugely! Have AVON ZV7s that are 4 years old. (2019 manufacture date, fitted Jan 2020) All 4 of them have huge cracks in-between the threads going around the whole circumference of the tyres! In that time I did approximately 15,000 miles, and the tyres still have 3.5mm front and 6mm rear thread depth. Very disappointing, never getting Avon's again that's for sure.

I bought them in Jan 2020 for £70 each, they now go for £125, a 78% price increase!! Even worse, Skoda can offer a different 'mid-range' tyre for £136 each (Falken AS210). That's £550 for midrange 'cheap' tyres!

That's more than my Goodyear F1 Assy 5s that I fitted in Nov 2020!*

*Should note the Skoda takes 215/45/16s, the Goodyear F1s were 225/35/19s.

Sadly this happens on a lot of tyres these days - I have 2 lots of Bridgestones which have done the same - most recent ones 2019 manufacture.

If you're getting all x4 tyres replaced I'd say get it done personally for piece of mind. Tyre valves do wear and leak with age and tpms sensors do fail. Perfect time to get them all done.

I left it in the end, any issues at later date I will just have to get it sorted, the tpms sensors have sealed in batteries as well so if they eventually die I would need to take it somewhere.

I’ve got Michelins pilot sport 4 done the same thing on my fiesta, just over 4 years old done about 19k on them.

I delayed on the PS4S's because I was deciding whether to get them before or after my Nurburgring road trip. Decided to go before, but have now missed the Kwikfit 15% code, booo

However, been reading some reviews as someone mentioned to go for the CS7's over the PS4S's, and actually, the reviews seem to back that up. Evo loved them as do a lot of other tyre review places. £250 a set cheaper as well, anyone else tried them?

After much advice I went with the Michelin pilot sport 4. It's going to be slightly bigger than my current 205/50r16. The MPS4's only come in 205/55R16. £107each.

Hopefully that's a typo and you haven't actually bought R16s to replace R18s, because they won't fit on 18" wheels :p
