**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

I don't class the word 'inferior' as particularly harsh on its own. It's just an adjective which describes something as not being as good as, or as high quality as something else, which is perfectly acceptable in this context! :p

To my knowledge yes, the w's will be fine. To be honest I think most tyres are over specced in termsof speed rating!

Cheers :) I really can't see how they wouldn't be fine since they exceed the top speed of the car, but since they're the only thing that connect you to the Earth, it's best to be sure.

Exactly hurfdurf! It's just not as good :p

But still inferior. :p

Had both PS2 and PSS on the 911 and to compare:

Dry grip, PSS is marginally better with as good if not better feedback.
Wet grip, PS2 was good, PSS is amazing and a noticable improvement, feedback also better.
PSS also works better in lower temperatures to.

Now where the PSS absolutely owns the PS2 and is far superior is it's on track performance, wear rate is nearly 3x better, the PS2's were good for 3-4 track days before being worn out, the PSS did ten track days and the PSS suffered far less from over heating.

So for a driver who has a powerful sports car and enjoys track days the PSS is superior, making the PS2 inferior. :p

So! My A6 currently has 215/55/16 BF Goodrich G-Grips all around.

The fronts are down to 3mm and are likely to need replacement before the MOT at the back end of April.

Do I stick with 215/55's which seem to be expensive or move to 205/55's which are cheaper and better quality tyres available. Can anyone see a problem me having difference sizes on the front and back for a while?

If I went with 215/55's I was thinking Hankook K115's as they are about £70 a corner in the correct speed/load rating or if I went 205/55's I could probably get a better brand of tyre in the correct speed/load rating for less than this!

The wheels on my car are fitted with 205's or 215's from the factory on the A6 so the widths are compatible with the rims.

Same horrible size i have on my mondeo, and i go for the Uniroyal RainSport 3s around £75 a corner on camskill. they have been excellent, and will purchase them agian when I need to. I have had PremiumContact 5s, but they are a good £25 per tyre more. Nothing else decent in this size either.

need a set of fronts for my golf gti

gone through the factory fit potenzas pretty quickly and wasnt impressed enough to buy a set

is it just a straight fight between the conti sport contact 5's or the pilot sports in this size ? - 225/40 18

budget tyres not required - tyres are the thing that keep me on the road!
