**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Hi! The front tyres on my MINI are at 2mm and I'm getting them replaced shortly. Tyre size:
205
45
R17
V speed rating

The car currently has 4 run flats but I'd like to move over to standard tyres. Any recommendations? :)

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2
Continental SportContact 5
Michelin Pilot Super Sport

Goodyears will be the cheapest, Michelin PSS will be the best IMHO. All 3 are excellent.

Conti Sport 5 v Eagle F1

I need to get 4 new tyres for my Audi A4 Avant (B8 SE).

I'm looking at getting either the Eagle F1's or the Conti Sport 5's to replace them, but it depends on which size I go for as to which tyre I can choose.

My Audi A4 has 2 size options in the 17":

- 225/50/R17 Y 94 - Eagle F1 not available in this size
- 245/45/R17 V 95 - Both available in this size, but around £10 per tyre more expensive than the 225/50

Questions:
1. Conti Sport 5 or Eagle F1?
2. Would paying the extra ~£40 and moving to the 245/45 make any noticeable difference to grip levels over the 225/50?

I don't think it's as simple as that - 225/50 are for 17"x7.5" wide wheels, 245/45 are for the 17"x8" wide wheels.

I don't think the tyres are interchangable, the fact you have two choices is purely down to the two different widths of wheel being available on that year/trim level of Audi based on your number plate.

Confirmation of the above.

Ah brilliant, thanks for that + the image.

It's fitted with the 7 arm design, so i'll stick with the 225/50 and get the Conti Sport 5's. Thanks again

Which tyre for golf gti 1.8t mapped to 180bhp.
225/45/17 best bang for buck tyre?

Preferably to reduce any wheelspin and increase general grip. I wont be doing long miles so endurance doesnt matter, just want pure grip/handling specifically in damp/wet weather ty.

Anygood offers?

Same size as my car, although very different sort of car (mines an AWD Jaguar). I've been using the Kumho KU39 all round for about £65 fitted and been pleasantly surprised.

Otherwise Goodyear Eagle F1AS2 is about £80 fitted or Conti SC5 for about £90-£100.

I very rarely look at this thread so excuse me if this has been covered but; I just phoned the tyre garage I usually go to for some replacement Eagle F1AS2's and he said he only has the AS3 in stock. I wasn't aware there was an AS3. Has anyone bought these? How do they compare to the AS2?

I think he's confused.

EDIT: Oh, they're quite new actually.

Tyreleader do the Goodyear F1 AS2 in your size for £65.77. Alternatively the Continental Sport Contact 5 is available for £71.77, the prices seem to fluctuate day to day though.

Delivery is free as well, either to your place or one of their listed garages, you should be able to get fitting for less than £10 a corner too.
