**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

I also dislike the P Zeros, worst tyre I've used out of RE050s, F1AS2, PS3 and not even comparable imo.

I had a close call understeer scare in the first few days of having them on and then about 2 months later I binned the car on a roundabout :o :p - Wet both times.

Are Pirelli P Zero Nero's any good?
...
Edit: Think it is , looks like the one that came third isn't a "nero". Is there a difference?

That is what I thought but is the "nero" a different (worse) tyre?

PZero Rosso and PZero Nero are lower cost mid range tyres - PZero with no suffix is Pirelli's highest performing tyre.

PZero are meant to be decent enough, although as far as I know they are a much older design than e.g. PS3/CSC5/F1A2 (which have now, or are about to all be superseded by PS4/CSC6/F1A3).

I had PZero Rossos on my A3, fine in the dry, but wet weather was a nightmare - switched to PS3s and wet performance is worlds apart.

I've had Pirelli P7 Cinturatos in the past and found them more than acceptable. I'd recommend those in an instant. Never tried P Zeros.

P zero is not a bad tyre by any means.

Thing is, there's a bunch of different P zero [suffix] which vary.

yes it was the nero i was looking at which is not as good. the standard P Zero is the good one i believe.

Tyre naming is a complete and utter minefield. Why can't they just make it simple?

I guess it all comes down to personal experiences with individual tyres, like with anything you get good and bad opinions.

Its the experience I've had with them id never buy them again, granted mine are a wee bit wider than most which probably doesn't help things. Its also much like the Bridgestone's RE50's I had on my Civic were very poor in the wet.

MOT fail today on my front tyres. Sadly in the same month as my insurance meaning I will have to wait until next month or so before I can replace the rears. (rears are nearly due for replacing anyway)

Gone for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4. Looking forward to seeing what they are like as feedback so far is fairly sparse. Will update with feedback once I have the rears matching and have given them a go in all conditions.

These haven't been out for long and from what I can see are at a level more in line with UHP tyres compared to the PS3. Any impressions on them so far?

The Super Sports or Sport Cups will still be Michelin's best performing tyre, but these should be a slight refresh compared to the PS3's which in my opinion are already very good.

I think I am probably the only person that rates the PS3 on here, whilst they are not any competition for the more track focused tyres already mentioned, they are still a UHP very nearly as good as the CSC5/F1A2.
Obviously technology moves on, but I would think the PS4 will still be on the same level as it's updated rivals CSC6/F1A3.

They are not really a UHP tyre and neither did Michelin intend them to be. It's this misunderstanding that has resulted in people not rating the PS3. The PS3 is a more mid range tyre, which replaced the well regarded Pilot Exalto.

The confusing name Michelin gave made people think it was the replacement for the UHP PS2, which it wasn't. This is the Pilot Super Sport, which is Michelin's competitor to the CSC5/F1A2.

I'm must be getting confused somewhere then, because I'm sure PS3/CSC5/F1A2 all trade blows in different tests and depending on whose reviews you read you get different outcomes. They are all priced within a couple of quid of each other as well (at least in my tyre size), whereas I'm sure the MPSS had a fairly hefty premium above those.

Also where does the CSC5P fit into the equation, as I thought that was an even better version of the CSC5 family.

From what I understand the PS4 is designed around the formula E tyres. Everything I have read about them suggests they are constructed similarly to the super sport but designed to fill the sizes such as 16/17R that supersport are not available in.
A brand new Michelin tyre using cutting edge compounds is going to be a stark improvement from 10 year old design Bridgestone S2000 OE fitment RE050MZ. Whilst they were OK tyres and I liked the feedback and stiffness in the sidewall, I think a modern tyre designed for performance cars will be a good move.

I'm not going to involve myself in any debate over their status as a UHP tyre or not. Once I've driven my car on them, I will offer some feedback based on my own experience.

My reason for purchasing them was down to the suggestions of longevity from Michelin tyres and that the other option in my sizes really is the AD08 and I don't fancy buying new tyres in 6000 miles as my last set of AD08 needed replacing rather quickly.

Plus I don't often go on track so buying track tyres is a bit daft.

How do people who are interested in cars fail MOTs on tyres?! You fail at S2000 ownership :(

You dont need to spend hours with a guage measuring and analysing the tread wear pattern. Every so often run your fingers round the tread and see how close they are to the wear indicators, it's not time exactly a lengthy job :p

You notice anyway even without measuring if your car is going to fail an MOT just by glancing as you walk past. Anyone who allows a car to fail an MOT on tyres deserves the inevitable panic buy ripoff they get as they scramble for tyres to make the car legal.

If your car fails it's MOT on tyres you've already been illegally driving it around on bald tyres.

It takes seconds to have a quick grab of the tread every couple of weeks, it doesn't suddenly go from 6mm to 1mm overnight.

It's mind boggling enough that even the general public don't bother but a car enthusiast with a performance roadster?!

You don't even need to scramble for tyres. buy online, get delivered same day/next day, sorted.

Yeah, its pretty embarrassing really, I definitely don't mind admitting it. I've paid very little attention to my car recently as I've got some stuff going on so my mind isn't on it at all. Its no excuse at all and is very out of character for me as I am usually so keen to monitor that sort of stuff more thoroughly. Its served as a bit of a wakeup call at least.

new tyres were ordered online so no rush buying.
