**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

My 2008 Octavia VRS estate needs 2 new 225/40/18 rear tyres, the inside is worn on my current pair so I probably need 4 wheel tracking too.

I can get 2 Uniroyal Rainsport 3's delivered from Camskill for £110, is there anything better for a similar price?

I've got 2 Goodyear Eagle F1 AS2's on the front and they're fantastic but they're also an extra £65 or so at the minute...

Which new tyres

I need 4 new tyres for my car which out of these lot would be the best bet, the size of the wheels are 235-45-17
Perelli P7 Cinturato Blue
Uniroyal RainSport 3
Goodyear Eagle F1
Continental Sport Contact 5
Dunlop Sport Maxx RT
Michelin Primacy 3

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance, Bridgestone Potenza S001 and Dunlop SP Sport Maxx RT are all pretty decent and come in at about £145 delivered. Or conti SC5 for £155 - probably all better than the Uniroyals and worth the extra £35-£45 a pair

I'd have the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's. They are &*very* reasonably priced at the moment and are a fantastic all round tyre.

Best place to get them from is tyreleader.co.uk then find a garage to fit them for £10-15 each.

EDIT: Scratch that, Tyreleader are doing them for £77 delivered whereas Asda tyres are doing them for £84 fully fitted.

If it's specifically from that list then either the CSC5 or F1A2.

Otherwise Michelin PS4 may be a better option, as its the most recently release premium tyre when compared to all of the above (£112.69 @ Blackcircles for your size) - although Goodyear and Continental are also in the process of releasing their updated F1A3 and CSC6

I've just searched on Tyreleader and found the brand new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3's for £80 inc delivery. Worth it for a another £25 a corner.

Completely depends on the car but as someone mentioned the Michelin PS4's, I run Pilot Sport 3's on my Noble & on my BMW and can't fault them :)

Who's the OcUK website of choice at the moment to buy tyres from? Preferably that come out and fit them for you as it's a pain with work finding time to get out and do it during the day.

I normally use eventtyres, but looking at 245/45/18 sizes they seem far too expensive compared to other places. There's just so many now that I don't know who is best

Personally I still use blackcircles, as the local garage I use through them are very careful with the actual fitment, and the staff are actually polite. Can't book them to come out, but can at least specify a half hour time slot and has never been late.

Probably a bit dearer than other sites, but I get cashback via Quidco and they offer Tesco clubcard points, so that helps narrow the difference.

Event tyres for me, normally cheapest or there abouts, no problems with any of them and used them for lots of different cars :) Appreciate you said they were more expensive though :p

Edit: That said, my latest Michelin tyres came from Costco, both times in a buy x tyres get £x voucher type deal :)

Purely size - larger sizes are 5P instead of 5. There is no overlap.
Are you sure? The tyre tread does look awfully similar, but perhaps the compounds are different?
Their web site says that the CSC5P is their "super-sports tire with superior handling for maximum fun." v "The performance tire, with outstanding handling and control." for CSC5.

Have a look - the sizes definitely overlap.

For the ContiWinterContact TS 850 v 850P, the P is only really available in bigger sizes and has a completely different tread, but is available in 16s and overlaps with the non-P. I just bought a set of 225/55 R 16 TS 850Ps.. Overkill I'm sure for the A6.

Sorry reading that back it's misleading - I meant it fits into the range by virtue of size, ie once you get to a certain size only the 5P is available. It is a slightly different compound.

It's annoying as with staggered tyres you sometimes get a situation whereby you can only get 5's for the front and 5Ps for the rear.

I hope you knowledgeable tyre people can help!

Both rear tyres on my 330ci used to go down at the rate of about 0.6 bar every two and a half weeks. Now however in my driver side only I've been losing pressure at the rate of about 0.8bar a week. I thought this must be a puncture so I took it into my pretty good local tyre man who said that my tyre's structure was fractured. He rolled the tyre towards me and showed me it wobbling (a lot!) as the surface of the tyres was uneven, and I could see it was uneven when I look at it properly. He said new a new tyre was needed.

1) Is this bs?

2) He suggested three tyres: Pilot Sport V3 as that is what is already on there (£160) but he isn't keen on them as you pay for the brand name; Avon ZZ5 (£130 fitted) which he recommended; and "Rapid P609" (£84) which he described as "premium budget" (not sure what that really means...) and would be "perfectly adequate"

What size? £160 for a PS3 sounds expensive. That's more than a 265/30/19 PSS for my car! I'd order the PS3 tyre online and make a saving.

Ignore the Rapid recommendations, lol... No idea if the Avon is good though. The PS3 is a fine standard tyre. If the wear on the other remaining tyre is low then probably want to replace both at the same time so tread levels are even.

Eurgh.

1 - As mrk said, those are way to expensive
2 - There's no such thing as "premium budget", they're budget so they'll be crap
3 - You're paying for the quality of the tyres, you arent "paying for the brand name"
4 - If you're talking about replacing one tyre, dont. Replace in pairs.

Tyre places use this sort of stuff to convince you to pay over the odds for nasty chinese rubber. The car is a powerful RWD premium brand -you should be putting proper rubber on there. The PS3 is a good tyre, or Continental SC5 would be a good alternative
