Unreal Tournament news on the horizon!

Eh? 2004 was 2003, just with extra maps and an extra game mode (Onslaught) wasn't it? :S

In any case, this is great news! While I was always more of a Quake2 & Quake3 multiplayer gamer I still loved the Unreal series, and also feel that decent twitch FPS gaming is severely lacking right now (unless you go back and play Quake Live or something I guess, but a new game would be nice). I couldn't get on with either Shootmania or Nexuiz which are the main recent ones I can think of, though I appreciated what they were trying to do.

didn't like the stuff they added, would much rather see a new quake as well.

Going to be interesting following the development of this - especially with the community involvement. I do think that asking the community to contribute to the game then asking them to pay for the dev tools is wrong though.

Did anyone else's head hurt after watching that:eek::D

Epic posted an update discussing progress and a rough plan of development (first 10 min's, then AI discussion)

Brief outline:
1: Forum development to allow all areas to be discussed.
2: Week One: Movement mechanics, big discussion ongoing.
3: They've requested that people explain why they do or don't like something ie: Double Jump, Dodge etc
4: Deathmatch Alpha:cool: will be the first milestone, initially for Dev's in this form.
5: Death Match and CTF:cool: will be the first to come followed by other modes:cool::D
6: Start your engines:cool::D UE4.2 is coming with vehicle relevant aspects, so they've requested the community to start considering ideas, designs and concepts:cool::D

I really hope they don't add vehicles !!
UT 99 with updated graphics, that's it !

This is 2014, why not have modes for everyone:cool: I don't think you need to worry because there's a very vocal group of the same mind. So a pure form of Death Match is the first priority, but it's the foundation for a bigger universe which I think is great:)
I've enjoyed all modes but Onslaught and Warfare have a special place in my heart:o:p:D

as long as they have an "original" mode that be great !

and I haven't a clue what those 2 mods are, I played UT 2013 or something and I hated it

Remember this is a combined Epic/Community project we'll get back what we all put in either as Dev's or contributors to the ongoing discussion:)

I think you mean UT3:D

It seems to be a marmite thing, I love it:p Warfare Titan after a bad day soothes away your troubles. Once you've gone Behemoth they're but a distant memory:p:D

The only thing they need to sort is the movement characteristics from UT99. The single jump, dodge and the ability to do skill dodge jumps up slopes etc which you couldn't with the later games.

They can add vehicles but have them as a separate mode and leave me to my iCTF :)

agreed

iCTF clan games were awesome !!

I cant remember all my clubs , but I did take over a clan (that didn't last long) called HUG, I remember in the other clan I was in, a guy called Isumi or something I thought he was brilliant

Hope to see MnM back :)

I'll try and get TBUK back up and running :p

Was that the tbuk from the clanbase ictf league?

I was in a midtable clan (=*SnC*=) & we only played them once & got the hammering of our lives...

But still another ut99 ictf addict here, praying this will bring back the fun before ut got clunky, tho I wouldnt mind seeing the invasion mod from... I think it was ut2003, had some fun on that too.

Yep.

We generally sat in the top 10 and were #1 for a short while :)

Looks like at the moment (though only going by prototype builds which obviously are subject to change) they are trying to get a hybrid of the UT99 and quake 3 movements - less floaty than q3 but less rigid than ut which IMO is no bad thing if they manage to pull it off though currently it seems a bit clunky trying to fast move up ramps/slopes.

Didn't realise they had prototypes already. Gonna look later!

Nothing really to look at they are just playing around with various different mechanics in throw away blank environments to see what works and what doesn't.

Yeah all early days at the mo:) but this has the potential to gather momentum quickly. I guess we need to keep our expectations in check at this early stage though:)

I hope though that people can be open minded about the potential for UT, why limit ourselves to what was? if the balance is right vehicles (and hover boards:o:D) can add a huge amount of fun to other modes:cool:

Some of the original composers have stepped up to the plate so the soundtrack should emote some nostalgia along with a fragging session:cool::D
