I think the problem is courier depots aren't set up for storage of parcels, they're not like distribution centres or warehouses.

As such I don't think they've been able to handle a first in first out system, I'm sure they've tried but without the space, equipment and systems in place it's an impossible task. This means while the average may be 3 days the maximum can be a lot longer.

DPD (and a lot of other couriers / royal mail by the sound of it) were working all weekend to clear the backlog and continue to put in the hours to catch up - as they get back to a normal next day operation anything that has fallen through the cracks will be able to be dealt with.

I just hope we get a few clear days, warnings of more extreme weather aren't welcome.

Oh this doesn't sound good. Haven't checked the forums out on here in a while, ordered one of the pre-built Ultima PCs assuming it'd go all smooth considering the snow has been long gone here. Hoping my order doesn't get caught up in the middle of all of this.

Most areas are running a normal next day service, some more a day or two behind at most.

It's really only the areas that had snow and ice the longest (scotland and western england) which have been severely disrupted. London had their bit of course but it was later and the thaw came sooner.

Guys, I really understand there are delays that are out of your control.

But you are still charging for a service you know your delivery people cannot uphold, this is not right.

This is good news then :) Hoping it won't affect my order then!

Royal Mail have pretty much cleared the backlog up here, I had a sack full of 1st class post delayed 9 days (posted 1st december), but it looks like it has now been shifted!

I do agree that you should not have said DPD were still delivering next day, I know that they probably claimed they were, but it was certainly not the case!

Could have been handled better!

Here are the service update pages from Royal Mail and DPD to see if deliveries are disrupted in your area.

just read this

Temporary withdrawal of the Special Delivery™ guarantee
The Special Delivery™ guarantee has been temporarily withdrawn for all SD items posted since Wednesday 1st December 2010. Although we are continuing to accept, prioritise and expect to deliver the majority of Special Delivery™ items at this time, the prevailing conditions mean we cannot guarantee the delivery of items the next day in all areas.

so this means no refund for me  , looks like i will stop using etailer's and will get stuff from local suppliers if any more snow is due

Surely you can still get a refund, they can't just say, guaranteed delivery, and take your money, but now we can't guarantee, so will keep your money.

If you paid for a service that wasn't provided then your entitled to a refund. All there doing here is admitting they can't get parcels to there destinations on time, not refusing refunds.

What service would you have us charge for then?

You seem to be under the impression there are multiple grades of tracked insured delivery services - there aren't. The miniumm grade of service is nominally called next day and that is, by and large, the service quality expected. Under normal conditions it is even possible, if conditions are met, to obtain a reduction in the charge if expectations are not met.

I don't think anyone would call the last 2 weeks weather in most of the country normal conditions, would they?

i was told on the phone no refund as my package had not been picked up , yet ocuk have sent it on friday . seems royalmail should be called royalfail tbh :D , £12 for nothing tbh :(

yet i have had mail from scotland where snow was bad , yet they fail to deliver from 50 miles away (scotland is over 350 miles away) .

noticed in the paper that they say more snow on the way :(

Finally got the call back from DPD today from their online message service thing. Tracker says that still "awaiting receipt of parcel" to which dpd says they received postage details but never the parcel. Quick call to OcUK and another is posted out - Great customer service again  Just hope dpd are a bit quicker this time round, according to last update I saw there were no delays on Bxx postcodes so guess will find out tomorrow.

13 Dec 2010 22:05 Hub 3 Your parcel has been received at our sortation hub

Still not 'out for delivery' and been waiting in all day. Rubbish!!!!

Mine should have been delivered 10th, but still not left the depot yet, front page mentions 1day delay for the depot were it's being held.

3 day delay in newcastle for next day delivery that shouldve arrived today.. im in middlesbrough and theres basically no snow left, the ice has been dealt with superbly and theres been no problem with normal post.. and were a small town, so how come newcastle a major city has such problems with the weather :s id of thought a lot more would have been done than most rural places?

holy cow :) ive been getting emails daily from citylink at work keeping us upto date with various depots edinburgh has a backlog of over 25000 consignments

That's odd, I ordered something to be delivered by Citylink on Friday, they tried to deliver on Saturday, Sunday AND Monday (without leaving a card), so I had to go to their depot today. 50km on my bike. :(

All become some eejit turned our doorbell off.
