US Open 2021

She has no answer because she doesn't look for winners, she just tries to get it back and waits for her opponent to make a mistake. Absolutely hateful style of tennis and she's got a grunt that would make Bane proud.

Raducanu's depth is absurd, it's so hard to hit winners when the ball is within a couple of feet of the baseline all the time. I've seen Tormo play before and she's a lot better than Emma is making her look.

Absurd grunt though.

Potentially Barty up next but win or lose, she'll be a multimillionaire by the time she gets back to the UK. She's a marketers dream and the sponsors are going to be climbing over each other to get her to sign with them.

It's a shame when the player earns more by being attractive than by being good at the sport (look at Bouchard, Kournikova etc etc.) Thing about Raducanu is she's both!

Genie when she broke through in that year was awesome. She went deep in all the slams, got to the final as well. Think she prefers the lifestyle.

Shame really as she use to get into her A game for sharapova and that was it.

Fair play to tormo winning that game

Incredible, absolutely incredible. That's one of the most dominant performances I've ever seen from a British player.

Also, top 100 in the rankings now. Heather Watson won't last long as the 2nd best Brit either.

She's possibly playing Barty in the next round.

Fernandez looked very good last night, too.

There seems to be a few quality, next gen players catching the eye this year, male and female.

It's Novak's?! :D

Edit: 18 year olds aren't meant to do this, 6-0 against the world 41.

Quite weird comment. Because as far as I follow the sport, exactly those years are the best for a player to shine in their brightest light.
I mean that's the age when the bodies have maximum energy and the spirit is also quite high.
I mean if you expect any surprises, then you should look at the 18-year-olds.

Federer was only 19 in 2001 when he did that against World Number 1 Pete Sampras :D

:rolleyes:

I'm not sure you're right in saying that 18 is when tennis players "shine their brightest light". How many slam winners are 18? There are some, but tennis players seem to peak in their late 20s / early 30s.

Obviously he didn't literally mean that 18 year olds are not supposed to do that, but it was a remarkable and unusual performance for someone of that age. Yes, Federer beat Sampras at a similar age, but he's arguably the best player ever and similar comments (19 year olds aren't supposed to do that) apply to him.

Federer is not.
Novak Djokovic is the greatest, and not only a tennis player, but maybe the greatest ever sportsman in any sport.

For me, in tennis, it is like:
1. Novak Djokovic;
2. Pete Sampras;
3. Roger Federer;
4. Rafael Nadal*?.

There is no way Sampras is ahead of Rafa and Roger. Lavers achievements in the game just get a big meh because it wasn’t all done in the open era.
