Valorant

I love league to death and been a big CS fan I thought I would like the look of this.

I hope it's more enjoyable to play then to watch is all I can say!! I will give it a try when it's properly released but I can't see this becoming the next big thing for E sports.

Started working about 10pm and then lost 12-13 because I am a potato!

Any solo or duo players looking for a full stack?

Have three of us playing and we're already bored of teams with no mics just wondering around with the Spike on their own and getting killed the other side of the map! We much prefer to all die as a team :p

I've not played much recently but would be nice to play with a group for a change - my ID is: Swinbag #1104

As someone with a deeply ingrained prejudice towards CS, (due to the last 20 years of the FPS genre increasingly dumbing down all mechanical skill ceilings and interesting movement mechanics almost eradicated from MP gaming, due to the success of CS) - I was fully expecting to hate Valorant.

With the addition of what at first glance looked like colourful childish graphics, I felt like it would go one step further than CS and embody every single thing I hate about modern FPS games.

But It's actually really bloody good! I'm genuinely loving the gameplay. Enough to finally pull the trigger on a full system upgrade, whereas neither Overwatch nor Apex could quite push me over the edge.

Perhaps it's time to let go of this resentment towards CS, might be time to let it go. Tactical shooters can be really fun, who knew.

It really does feel like a Riot game, I love how coherent everything in the game is, all of the design, art, music and gameplay. Even though it's closed beta, to me it just feels really solid and polished. Clean, not much visual clutter or messy gameplay (cough Raze grenades), simple addictive gameplay.

I actually really like the art style as well, it's not childish at all, but also doesn't feel pretentious like some of the "grown up" military-fantasy games can feel.

I don't see a problem with hating CS and liking this game - some people tie it to CS and there are some shared themes but this is nothing like CS in as many ways as it is like CS (sure there is a spiritual connection at its very core but beyond that it takes a different direction). Personally I liked CS because it stripped it down to the bare gameplay - something that later variants of the game started moving away from.

EDIT: And something that people seem to be missing is my objection here is the Google plus, etc. style hype train that is making out like it is reinventing the whole genre when it really isn't - that isn't to say I'm saying it is a bad or good game I'm just allergic to that kind of hype - especially when I've been around long enough to have seen it all before and can smell the BS a mile off.

My microphone doesn't seem to work in the game, I can't hear anything on the loopback test at all. Works fine in other games, and Windows. Seems to be a lot of posts about this on reddit but no solution for many people.
