VEGA IS FINALLY HERE, ITS IN STOCK ALONG WITH SOME EPIC BUNDLES & FREESYNC DEALS!!

Looks like Jayztwocents isn't amused with the whole Vega thing.

"I've been thinking about this @AMD Vega price increase and the position they put us reviewers in... I no longer recommend Radeon."
They never once mentioned a "coupon" and they clearly chose a deceptive marketing strategy with regards to reviewers.
For this very reason, I will no longer accept any RADEON product for review and will purchase my review samples for their graphics reviewsBut I will wait at least 1 month post launch to attempt to buy. I had high hopes @AMD would take the high road this time, but clearly not"

Not recommending is perhaps going over the top, but that's each to their own.
But if he's going to do that, why buy the items & then review them? (Well, apart from for the views to get money...).
Wonder if this'll change his Threadripper build getting used /shrugs.

He's ranted about nvidia before, but still pushed them.
There are other things that have gone on with AMD and reviewers that Jay and many others aren't happy with. Apparently Vega was delivered to most of the reviewers on Friday with the lifting of the review embargo on Monday which meant everyone had to work the weekend in order to meet the deadline and have something decent to put out (and thus not spending time with their families/children). A similar thing happened with Threadripper where AMD only gave the press boards and samples a few days prior to launch, Jay said in the Wan Show with Linus he refused to put a review on the day and missed the deadline on purpose.

Some of the Youtubers fell like there being treated as nothing more than an extension of AMD’s marketing department.

Unboxing vids were the worst for me, having seen all that lush Vega boxing and then the actual retail cards come with nothing but a bit of foam to keep it secure and zero else. Shocking tbh.

Yep, I said pretty much the same thing last week, I don't get why they would spend so much money on fancy boxing for RX Vega that's being shipped to the press only for actual paying consumers to have cards sent to them in bog standard cardboard boxes. I mean who are they trying to impress? Are they hoping that the fancy packing will somehow deflect the reviewers attention away from the underwhelming performance and power draw issues? If AMD are providing press samples they should really be sending out in plain no thrills packaging. Oh and I just remembered they done the exact same thing with Threadripper! So much for the RTG and the CPU divisions being separate entities!

Makes for prettier unboxing, imagine the cost if vegas had that packaging, plus were they not direct from amds stock where we get aib stuff aka gigabyte, asus, msi

If they get free cards thats how it works I guess.

Did jay say do not buy nvidia products, did he say he would refuse nvidia samples that he can keep
He seems neutral enough to me. The point was Jay said either he makes enough views to make this a job that supports a family or its 2 bit deal where he is impressed about getting free gear. Having to jump hoops impairs the review, he probably is right to take a different stance or he'll just be yet another reviewer saying the same things as everyone else

Vaguely recall him saying he had to do this on a weekend & miss family time.
But...he didn't have to.
Sure, it'd maybe(?) mean a few less views, but chances are not many, if any.
Nobody really had to do them on the weekend, they could've held off, it was their choice to go ahead.

Sure, AMD could've also sent them earlier, but such is life & they're getting freebies to test. I wouldn't say no ;)

One thing that I still think is dodgy, they didn't have drivers ready for release did they?

for clarity, i am confused as hell, will there be more R64 for £450, or was last weeks launch it
Only rumours at this point. Reviewers are being told extra units will become available, but these are the same reviewers AMD gladly told the price was $499 in the first place with no mention of that being a limited rebate price.

That's the question. More of the astute observers have pointed out that AMD's statement doesn't actually say they will be bringing more cards out at the launch price. It just says there were cards at the launch price, they sold out, and now AMD are going to make more cards.

it is an interesting question, as you see what we can currently get are packs, and the post above by silversurfer has amd saying they are replenshing stocks of all types, the packs, the standalone etc.

So whats stopping us ordering R64 now, and then sending back via RMA (Within 14 days) if the new priced product turns up?, in theory the product is exactly the same

Same. I tend to think unless there is a large jump in memory prices the REP (recommend price set by AMD) will remain at £450. What OCUK et el choose to charge after that however is anyone's guess.

If you do want a Vega card don't hang around and wait 6/9 months for the prices to drop. A prices won't drop significantly below £450 due to the cost of manufacturing so I tend think AMD will only give Vega a short life span much like they did with Fury.

Vega is being used in many different platforms, consumer, laptop, Apple, professional, industrial and gaming is only one part. Its going to be around at least two years in some shape or form, hopefully it'll be improved also
The point on MSRP is OCUK cannot retail at that price right now and pay their employees, i dont think they are kidding about that. They'd have to list it out of stock, instead its listed at a price if you want it and nobody knows when that'll change. Jay said he thinks AMD will force through the price and I think its a requirement for bulk sales to occur. If stock is limited then I'd not guess on price falling

well thats not true Raja Koduri sends me a Christmas card every year and never forgets my birthday
