Vettel vs Alonso - Who Deserves it more?

Clearly the F1 lot are being selective over what they read.

The title says Vettel vs Alonso - who deserves it more?

What's the debate all about? Hamilton.

My 2 cents: Kinda stuck with who to root for as from 97 onwards I've been a Ferrari fan but started following Vettel from 08. On raw ability, Alonso just about shades as that Ferrari was GOD awful at the start of the year. Got very lucky indeed to win in Malaysia but has pulled off some stunning drives, namely Valencia.. (Oh wait, the safety car came out and Vettel retired, so it doesn't count like Vettel's drive in Abu Dhabi right ;)) but RBR weren't really challenging either at the time so Vettel's done well to haul himself up there. Alonso, but only just.

So you have proof this is adjustable ride height, and not just a skid block coming loose and scraping on the ground like everyone else in F1 seems to have agreed it was?
Which would be brillantly clever. But as the car is closely scrutenised by the FIA at every race weekend.

The FIA have never checked a car out fully EVER.. Nascar rules makes F1 look silly and is open to cheating.

Alonso as hes the lesser of the 2 evils:p.

Seeing as Hammy has a car thats just as fast as the RBR but reliability is an issue, i would have liked him to win the WDC.

But seeing as he isnt remotely in the WDC then im going with Alonso to win hopefully. Couldnt stomach that smug German winning it again :/

I also like the way that Alonso has handled himself this season. He has come across as a lot more endearing compared to seasons gone by.

When things haven't gone smoothly he has quietly expressed his feelings with famous ideologies and quotes referencing famous proverbs, coming across far more laid back and passive.

Vettel on the other hand has shown at times that he is still maturing as a driver and rather "slams the desk" with his gesticulations and radio messages when things aren't going right.

Obviously none of these things win points but I find it easier to appreciate Alonso's mentality.

Vettel would probably have tried to have Horner sacked if he'd had the car Alonso has been carrying this season!

I'd say Alonso, that Ferrari this year has been a bag of nails and he's still in the championship battle. Can't see Seb doing a similar job in the same situation.

But on a side note Kimi has been excellent this season, given a faster car he'd be champion already.

Completely agree.
Also, the finger thing that Vettel does. It's annoying as someone mentioned above. It's actually very annoying. He seems to think it some kind of personal "thing" that only he "does" when winning. But in all honesty, it makes him look so stupid and insecure as if to reinforce that he has won, he feels it necessary to wave the finger about in all possible situations.
Yes Seb, we get it, you won. You are number 1...helped massively by being in the number 1 car.
Waving the finger around like that just oozes milking it for all it's worth, like some kind of child. A fist pumping the air a lot, fine. The finger = criiiinge.

Seb does come across as throwing his toys out of the pram more. He also rarely has to fight as much as Alonso and others have had to. Not to say he cannot, it just is more natural to him to lead and win from the front. Yawn. Not the most exciting to watch consequently.

Seb is also selfish as we have seen in the past and will not accept when he has made an error. I would not call him the best team player on the grid.

I am also convinced if you add up all of the luck Seb has, it is more statistically than any other driver on the grid. Anyone who thinks otherwise must not be watching the same F1 races I have for the last few years.

One thing I will say as a positive for Vettel, there is no denying he is a seriously good/quick driver. I just think he is flattered more than others by the car and team.

But you think something as fundamental as a system to adjust the ride height would be completely missed by the FIA and all the other F1 teams?

These conspiracy theories around supposed fancy Red Bull devices exist only outside of F1. At even the slightest hint that any of this stuff was true rival teams would be kicking up an almighty **** storm. Ferrari are RBRs biggest rival at the moment, and they are best buddies with the FIA. If they thought they had any chance at all to get RBR in trouble they would be all over the FIA like a rash. The fact they aren't says it all really.

Its just hot air fueled by the media and sustained by those fans desperate for some controversy and who have little understanding of the rules. As soon as you apply an ounce of common sense it all falls apart.

I doubt that very much, unless Grosjean was still his team mate. Even then he had the beating of him for a good bit of the season in qualifying. A better team mate would have hammered those points home after out qualifying him.

A better driver would have won more than 1 race in that car. It is only his first season back but his one lap pace seems to have deserted him and in wheel to wheel duels he looks like coming second best.

I think he's just kept out of the way all year without much pressure. I doubt if he was in a Red Bull/Mclaren or Ferrari he would be anything but blown away this year by their no1 drivers.

Alonso. It's easy to hate on Vettel but I thinks it's clear to see Alonso is the best driver in F1 and has worked the hardest this season. He thoroughly deserves the title despite the fact he won't take it I think.

Corrected.

Alonso performed amazingly at the start of this year to such an extend that he had even his biggest haters applauding him. However, as the year has gone on he's dropped the ball. Just look at Massa. Not only has he caught up with Alonso, he's actually been faster than him a few times.

Alonso has been the master of the positive outlook and making the most of an opportunity when it comes to him. But lately as the uncertainty of the early races has vanished he has been out classed by Vettel and Hamilton, and on occasions other drivers too. The fact that Massa has out qualified him in the most key race of the season for the championship sums it up really, especially when you compare it to how Massa was almost outclassed into retirement at the start of the year.

I don't think 5 podiums in the last 5 races he has finished can be described as 'dropping the ball' frankly. He's just been a victim recently of Vettel finding form in another monstrously fast Red Bull car and picking up 4 straight wins and 2 podiums, at a time when he's also suffered two retirements.

This particular weekend he's obviously had some problems and Massa seems to have embarrassed him in qualifying, but one race weekend doesn't dictate half a season's worth of performance. The only other time Massa has beaten Alonso in qualifying is when Alonso had the ARB failure in Q3. Rather than 'sum it up' I would say this weekend is an exception to the norm.

Similarly in race form, I don't really remember Massa being notably quicker anywhere? Alonso has still been putting in stellar performances.

What this weekend may well 'sum up' for Alonso though, is the end of a realistic hope of the title.

What did he say?

Asked him if his poor qually performance was because he'd got his contract sorted for next year already and didn't need to try. You could see the anger in his eyes but he kept it together for the TV cameras. After he left them, Jake then noted when Eddie said that Daniel was angry about his performance that he might well be more angry at EJ for saying that he wasn't trying hard enough.
