Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Even though I haven't got mine installed yet, I've had a good experience with their CS. I filled in one of those 'spotters' forms online, because the address wasn't fully listed on the Virgin website.

The guy called me back and got everything set up for me. Went out to the property the same day and called me from there to make sure I was okay with his plans for were the cable was going to go.

He gave me his mobile number as well to call him if there are any problems which is good, don't have to bother going through the call-centres or anything. The guy is the sales executive and spotter for the Belfast area, so its pretty handy to have him local and have his mobile number.

Genuine conversation i just had with Virgin tech support:

Virgin: And what operating system are you using?
Me: Linux
Virgin: I mean are you using Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7...
Me: I'm using Linux
Virgin: Sir I need for you to look on the case for your computer for a sticker that should tell you what version of Windows you have
Me: I need for you to look in your office for somebody else i can speak to.

He hung up on me in the end, although I think by accident as he was mid sentence.

Anyway rather than find out why my 2mb line was running at 512k, I just phoned and upgraded to 10mb. They said 24 hours. It took 10 seconds for the changes to take effect.

Honestly i know people have had crappy Virgin experiences, but mine have all been superb. I must just be in a great location for it.

Classic.

Does upgrading renew my contract? Just I'm out of contract currently, but don't want to renew it as I'm planning on moving out in 6 months.

Yes, normally it does.

How much are people paying for their 50mb by the way?

Our monthly bill for our Internet is about £40, which I find really odd since it should be £25 right as shown on their website.

Anyone know what virgin installers will and will not do, will they run a cat 6 cable upstairs to a switch if i ask them. When i asked customer services they said they'd do what ever i asked, but i do believe this may not be so.

Also does the super hub have qos? hmmm no it doesn't.

I tried getting my installer to run RG6 cable to the other room but he won't budge.
I don't think they will run CAT6 cable but it doesn't hurt to try.

Been enjoying the dizzying heights of 1.5MB/s for the last 5 days on my XXL package. Can't wait to phone Virgin tomo, that's always an enjoyable experience.

.

Probably not. I do it in work, I keep talking and just hang up. They think I've been cut off being mid-sentence :D

Must point out I don't work in a call centre or anything remotely similar before people have a rant at me

Upgrading doesn't have to renew your contract.

I used to have 20mb, then reduced it to 2mb as i'd moved to the UAE and the people in my house didn't need it. Now i'm back, I called them up to upgrade and it was free to do so, but 10mb would increase my bill by x per month.

it was £7 if i locked it into contract for 12 months, or £12 without the contract.

So it's perfectly possible to upgrade outside of a contract, but it will cost you more. Also, it may not apply for their flagship packages like 50mb or 100mb.

First bit of downtime for me today, stupid thing just won't sync and I'm getting "connectivity state: access denied" :(

Time to phone virgin me thinks, sigh.

I had that a couple of weeks ago.

I called them, they told me that there was some work being carried out, I asked the ETA of the fix, they said 3 days...

I kicked off, they refunded me for 4 days, it was back on about an hour later :o

I keep getting connection issues, getting over 3.8 mb/sec download on a 30meg line from virgin, but even when not using such high speeds the connection regularly drops (im wired) doing my nut, anyone know of any freephone numbers? dont want to be paying tonnes as I only have my mobile available at this address.
