Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I had that yesterday.

Had an Asian accent, I asked him what my account number and name was. He said, yes, your name is Mudda Fukka

Made me laugh, then put the phone down.
Haha.
Ah man, you got a call from the extra-special-retentions team...and you hung up on them!?!

Damn, they're the ones that can give you the very best deals that no other retention teams can!

I may be telling porkies.
I'll hang up on anyone if they fail to identify themselves properly, tell me what they want and make me consent to something I can't because I don't know if I want to continue.

Interestingly the caller didn't say what VM department she was from, just that she wanted to discuss my cancellation. I felt like saying, "What is there to discuss? I'm leaving, not thinking of leaving."

Well I did receive a the day after on the 6th from number 0800 408 9340. I answer and no one spoke so I hung up. I goggled the number and it is apparently operated by VM but lots of sources online are claiming it to be a scam and other saying its VM retentions. One person asked on VM community about the number and the VM forum team member said the number was not VM as doesn't look like number they would use.

Anyone know if this is actually VM or what number VM retentions are actually going to ring me from?
08004089340 is the number they used when they called me, first call was the same as you said ( no one spoke) then they called back later in the day.

I got a call yesterday from Virgin retentions, oddly was a mobile number but the guy passed my suspicion tests so went on to negoitiate with him, he started off offering me 500Mb @ £34 but when we spoke about O2 he finally offered 18 month at £31 for 1Gig service (had to take a £6 O2 Sim but thats included in the 31quid). Happy with that, the guy said people have been leaving in their droves.

It's bizarre how companies 'prove' themselves when they call you. I had a call from Starling bank (it definitely was), and I had to give them the code that keeps changing on my app. But I could have said anything and they could just say passed.
Surely THEY would have to tell me a code or something that aligns with the app?!

Yeah I'm wondering if should have just cancelled and waited for proper dialogue. On the other hand doing that would be a right ball ache.

It was no effort on my part really, failed to get anything like the deal I wanted first go round, cancelled and left it. Retentions called, I missed the first one, they called back and did the deal above.

Precisely what I was thinking yesterday. They want to be sure they're talking to the account holder when I ring and I want to be sure I'm talking to VM when they ring. Identity security goes both ways surely?

Nice to see some people don't need to haggle for a deal while others are finding it super hard to get anything at all.

Maybe it's to do with postcode/address.
I think you've got to wait right until the death, I tend to panic a bit which means they win. Plus as I say I'm not that desperate to save.
In August when my contract is actually up I shall see what others are offering, I do think vm have failed to move with the times though. As fttp gains traction they will have to up their game.
Unfortunately my fttp provider is not quite as competitive as others, but still acceptable. I need to get away from vm, they're not good for my health.

Might look at an O2 sim too, but purely for WAN failover for some smart devices like Tado.

Based on conversations with a few people, I wouldn’t leave Vodafone for O2.

Might try and get hold of my sister re family discounts.

Clearly they’re suffering, what a shame…

I don’t think I will see FTTP until 2024/25

Many deaf customers are missing out deals from virgin media because they cannot use the phone if virgin media called back to offer discussion but deaf person will NEVER NEVER hear or understand what VM offer deal are? Sound big discrimination as they should email deaf customers with offer deal discussion rather than the phone call. That's why many deaf peoples will NEVER join virgin media!

Also count yourself LUCKY because you are not deaf person and getting best deal from phone call. Life isn't fair.

No they won't discuss deal over whatsapp messenger because they have to call you back to discuss deal offer. Again another discrimination.

The retentions team will absolutely respond on WhatsApp for those who can't do a phone call. I know someone who renews this way and still negotiates a deal, it's pretty easy to get them to add the information to your account or just let them know in the initial WhatsApp chat.
