Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I got a call yesterday from Virgin retentions, oddly was a mobile number but the guy passed my suspicion tests so went on to negoitiate with him, he started off offering me 500Mb @ £34 but when we spoke about O2 he finally offered 18 month at £31 for 1Gig service (had to take a £6 O2 Sim but thats included in the 31quid). Happy with that, the guy said people have been leaving in their droves.
Check your contract when it comes. This sounds very similar to the retention deal I had last year but when I received the contract it said the agreed price was only for 6 months - which they never told me on the phone.

I wish I could leave, been with them since they where called Cable Tel\VM etc but no other providers around here at all can provide the same speeds and no 5G either

I don't think it matters, if you think about like many others have done around here you just use this price hike/letter as an excuse to get out, you could literally just blag it and say do have 5G and you are set to now leave. Get the cancellation request authorized and then wait for hopefully rententions to call you with a better deal and offer and if not you can call 1 day before the 30 day cancellation is up and keep the service.

Its like nothing tried nothing ventured.

It was not bad going through whatsapp asking to disconnect from them, it did however take 2 hours due to delays in answers getting back to me.

They offered me after 20+ years of loyal service this:

V350 fibre bb
Maxit TV + BT Sports
Weekend chatter
02 sim 2GB- 18 month contract
3 wifi boosters if diagnostic checks pass

For a bargain price of......£75 which is reduced from so called £85

Yet if I was a new customer with zero loyalty according to their website I could get
Ultimate Volt bundle
1130Mbps
230+ channels + BT sports+Netflix
Weekend chatter
02 sim 5GB- 18 month contract

For £85 as a new customer, so much for a so called £85 package their own website contradicts it.

Looks like half the this group is getting better then the above for £49.99:cry:

Awaiting retentions, can I ask them on the phone to go on whattsapp for communication?

I think when my time is up this time around I will ditch VM properly. Ive always done the retention merry go round for the past 10 years. But I really don't want any TV package anymore nor the landline phone.

It seems a bunch of new options have opened up in my area recently - lots of new companies that run a new line from the pole directly to my house. Is this the fibre to the property stuff I hear talked about?

I did ask him this, is the deal for the life of the contract he said yes. I also asked what happens if there is another price rise, he said then contract would go up by that amount, he had no control over future price rises in like another year.

It's showing options as Virgin, Openreach or Cityfibre. Bit confused though as entering my postcode on the Openreach checker says it's available but then I can't see how to actually see the prices/packages.
I'd be choosing CityFibre personally, check out https://www.no one.co.uk/

Vodafone is also a frequently chosen option for both CF and OR networks, if that's more your thing.

How do you choose between Cityfibre or Openreach?

Prices don't seem any cheaper than virgin either. £32 for 150Mbps, I'm paying £33 for 110Mbps, tv and 5Gb mobile package with virgin.

And how much upload? CF is symetrical. If a providor does both CF and OR, you need to speak to them to specifiy but there's really no reason to choose OR over CF due to CF having symetrical speeds. Both CF and OR networks are miles better than VM.

Is upload that critical unless you're doing loads of cloud stuff? I have 20 Mbps upload on my current VM service and can't say I've ever noticed that being an issue.

most people wont notice, but Openreach tends to be more expensive (by design to encourage altnets and break the monopoly https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.p...t-to-block-openreachs-uk-fttp-price-cuts.html), so why would you pay more to receive a lesser service?

vodafone and talktalk seems to handle it well, where you can see that you are in cityfibre just by comparing the prices

Hmm, not sure I can benefit much from this idea. I pay £33 already which includes TV, landline and 5Gb phone sim. I don't want the TV or landline, but would need to get a new phone sim if Im swapping away from Virgin. So to benefit I really need the broadband only to be about £20.
