Virgin Media Discussion Thread

My VM is pretty reliable, very rarely have any issue. When I do it seems to be the superhub, which takes ages to boot up when I reset it.
Define pretty reliable? How was the service last week?

I have had precisely zero issues with Openreach FTTP in nearly 2 years. Prior to that I had Openreach FTTC for 6 years and in all of that time there was a single 2 hour outage.

You seem intent on staying with VM, so just do that.

100% uptime as far as I know.

I would say I get an internet drop out a handful of times per year but mostly its the router it seems.

The only time i recall getting a service disruption was when the whole area dropped out for several hours once, a few years ago.

Well no, I'd rather move as they are annoying me with these recent price rises and the fact Im stuck with tv and landline I don't want. But I don't want to spend more.

This is with Grain.
Thanks.

Grain don't cover my area, but cityfibre and openreach do, so that doesn't make sense to me as these companies use those underlying networks.

My prices for full speed, via the cityfibre network, are:

Vodafone: £46
Talktalk: £36
Giganet: £40
Zen: £40
Octaplus: £32
No one: £40
Yayzi: £39
IDnet: £60
Factco: £45
Link: £37

I've seen Vodafone offers for 900 £35pm and £130 Amazon voucher so keep an eye out.

Same, I remember them when they where NTL as well

Was it NTL that had the dial up internet?

We were with NTL as well, and I remember having dial up but not sure if that was the provider before NTL took over.

I still remember the dial up days, something about it was fascinating, hearing that sound and then being online, at the time it was really clever stuff!

Got 1st call from VM after cancelling yesterday, called from an 0800 408 9340 mobile number, sounded like a British person from here discussing it he asked how come you are leaving after such a long time with us, I said CF more reliable, asked what speeds I get I said 1gig upload and 1gig download for £29.99 he said can't do any price matching since that deal is good, he did ask if I have an o2 sim I said nope got another provider sim.

He was not interested in reducing any pricing though, sounds like the very early on conversations in this merry go round show...

Still unsure if it really was retentions department since the same number I have tagged as VMsales team.

I hope to leave VM soon, just for better prices and the FTTP line quality, but for me VM has been rock solid for going on 3 years, not noticed or been effected by the recent outage.
Im on a rolling contract currently, so its just a case of waiting for more providers in my area.

Had Lila fitted on Tuesday and I'm getting :
992.45 download
942.23 upload
6 ms ping

Just rang Virgin to cancel and I pretended Lila was going to be installed on Monday so tried for a deal.
I got nothing, I even described some of the deals people were getting on here but he wouldn't have it.
He knew OCUK Forums and I told him to look on the Virgin thread for what others are being offered but nothing.
Anyway it goes off on May 14th, it's quite sad because I've been with them from the mid 90s with C&W > NTL > Virgin.

That was perhaps just the normal 1st line support, within 30 days you should hopefully get retentions calling and offering as much deals as possible but from the sounds of things they know this "game" well also so won't offer much deals till right at the end.

I cancelled yesterday and got the call today but no good offers there so will keep waiting it does feel like to them its nothing like a flick of a switch so lets see towards the last few days before they disconnect.

Last time we did the dance, I was called and told this was the final offer and 'Nobody will be calling you after this, so take it or leave it'. Thanks, I'll leave it. Surprise surprise, fast forward to a week before the contract ended and someone called asking us to pleeeeeease stay. I got a fraction of the price.
