Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Well i'm thinking about switching to virgin but the speeds i get with Bethere and the service is just amazing. I get solid 20's in COD4 and 10-25 in CS so i would hate to switch and get a drop in service thats all.

no m8, they said somthin about the ubr and ip config ranges, and said basicly its screwed. got a phonecall next day sayin out of hours team didnt find nothin. wierd thing is, scince they looked its been fine, so they obviously did see somthin, and dont want to admit to it

i've got the 20mb connection shared with 6 other lads at uni and max download speed via multiple connections on newsleecher is about 2.3MB/s

It gets to a point where there's simply no point in paying more. 2.3MB/s is fast enough for me.

My connection is hideous again at the moment

All this clamping down on bittorrent usage kinda makes a 50mb kind of useless (over kill) that is unless your sharing you bandwidth with a lot of other computer users. I think it is really heavy usage of torrent software which makes 50mb worth the investment. So if this clamping down causes throttling then I can't really see any point of having a connection any better than say 10mb.

anyway 50Mb isn't only good for torrent. its good for downloading big files form sites e.g. demos, updates, ect... i know some sites limits the download speed but its easy to get around that. gamershell.com is a good site for 50Mb..

Is there any deal haggling available on this? Fancy upgrading from 20mb when I move house. Not sure I can stomach the monthly cost though :(. Unsure. Whats the news on caps? Thats the main thing drawing me to it tbh, not being able to download during the day sucks hard.

Well my 50Mbps ending up costing me an extra £4 per month so cost wasn't really an issue, install and activation is now £50 which isn't too bad either, there are currently no caps on the 50Mbps service.

My 50Mbps now seems to be behaving itself, getting 50Mbps pretty much constantly now, don't know if Virgin fixed it or it fixed itself ;)
