Virgin Media Discussion Thread

yep its true. it was on the news awhile ago...

The french have implemented the three strikes rule right? Havn't heard of any legislation being past in the UK though ....

Does anyone know what the penality is for downgrading to 20MB? I.e., if i used the 50MB for 2 months and then wanted to downgrade - how much would it cost?

my 50Mbps is only costing me an extra £1 per month, :). because i was on the 20Mbps which was costing me £34 with no phone, then i upgrade to the 50Mbps with phone, which was costing me £35 for the internet which i pay for and £11 for the phone which my gf pays for.

Well I currently pay £24pm for 20mb, so its double the price for 50mb. Not sure its worth it at the moment. The bundle offers are so sneaky! Here have XXL AND Phone for £35, add to basket > oh yeah we forgot to add the phone onto that previous quote, sozlol.

ummmmmm, it does say on it "£35 a month. When you take a Virgin Phone line for £11 a month."

This is my problem tbh i get my 20mb for £22 a month in a package deal what extra will it cost me if i wanted 50 meg ?, i don't mind paying the difference from what 20-50 meg would be but as you said its not worth nearly a extra £30 a month on my current deal.

Well my speed issues seem to have gone away, getting a constant 50Mbps from Astraweb now ;)

How do you find your pings are?

Should be getting my 50mb in next week, can't wait! Have you tried anything like rapidshare to test your connection?

try to do a ping to tf2.trashedgamers.com

It's a TF2 gaming community located in NJ, USA. I always get around 100ms and it's a good way to judge how the ISP perfomrs locally due to differences between the ISPs.
A friend on VM (previously NTL) gets 15ms higher than I do.

rapidshare is a slow download site . gamershell.com is an good fast download site full 50Mb.

I usually max out my current 20mb connection so was wondering how much of the 50mb it would use up. I have a premium account with Rapidshare.

Most of my heavy downloads will be via newsgroups anyway.

virgin are really leading the way in high speed internet. I'm quite happy with my 8Mb connection with o2 at the moment. What do you guys do with your 20Mb connections??

I just ordered 50 meg to upgrade my 20, works out at £15 more a month and considering i pay £22 for 20 meg it means only £37 for 50meg happy with that, on the charges i just got a connection charge of £20 nothing else i recall reading about a £50 fee but he said only £20.

"Standard Installation

Or you can install your equipment yourself from
just £15 instead - just choose Quick Start self-install during checkout

50Mb broadband activation £20.00"
