Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I got that crappy voip phone dongle in the post this week. Is it easy to set up?

Looking to leave VM once we have a decent alternative, but in the mean time need to sort this now, are they dumping the normal phone line service altogether.

I got mine a few weeks ago it swapped over on the 9th of this month, all I did was plug my phone into the dongle plug the dongle into port 1 your hub will probably reboot soon as it's rebooted it should work straight away ours did.

The engineer mentioned to me there switching off the lines this fall already, complete pitta for people operating alarms and security they have to install fake hubs with just enough internet to get the telephone signal out so it works.

The engineer I had was able to connect my upstairs telephone line that Videotron installed 300 years ago and piggy back the connection to my downstairs newer VM telephone socket so I can use my telephone land line downstairs without the need to move the hub5 downstairs, talk about above and beyond if it was a bloke doing it they would have just moved the router downstairs left, but this was a female technician.

Hopefully I won't need to do anything in the future.

Rebooted the hub, tweaked Cake on the router to account for the new upload speed, and:

If so you should have a fibre to coax converter on the side of your house which needs power.

from what I'm told RFoG isnt compatible with OFDMA

What does your stats on the hub say on the upload side?

Yeah the converter needs power, got the white socket with the green light.

I don’t even have the 3.1 docsis channels on the upload.

Can you show me what it shows in the upload section of yours stats. Should be be able to copy and paste it here.

Cheers

That’s something I need to do as well ha. I’m using OpenWrt. Just wondering what your settings are @Rainmaker ?
I'm pretty sure I already posted them, if you search the thread for my username and/or 'sqm'. At any rate, I'm pretty sure this was my last OpenWRT SQM config (I'm on IPFire atm). Be aware of the interface name; I'd set my WAN to eth0.

/etc/config/sqm

Code:
config queue 'eth0'
    option verbosity '5'
    option interface 'eth0'
    option debug_logging '1'
    option ingress_ecn 'ECN'
    option qdisc 'cake'
    option squash_ingress '1'
    option qdisc_really_really_advanced '1'
    option qdisc_advanced '1'
    option egress_ecn 'NOECN'
    option squash_dscp '1'
    option script 'piece_of_cake.qos'
    option eqdisc_opts 'docsis nat ack-filter dual-srchost noatm'
    option linklayer 'none'
    option enabled '1'
option iqdisc_opts 'docsis besteffort ingress nat dual-dsthost noatm'
    option upload '48000'
    option download '930000'

You'd also probably want to double (at least) the upstream now, due to the 100Mbps upload on Gig1.

Same as mine..
Strange as even their own fourms are saying RFoG will not be getting the 100mbs upload..
This is my configuration tab and upload specs. You can see its still 50mbs :(
