Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I decided to brave gaming and discord voice on my new VM line last night, no issues. I've switched my UDM SE over to use VM as the primary internet and I'll see how it goes for a week. As I mentioned, we are in a new VM area so apart from the usual nationwide issues VM have from time to time, I don't think I'll suffer with any local congestion issues. I did notice yesterday evening that speed tests were dropping down to mid 700's, but usenet speed was still full and I'd had a few glasses of wine and I was tinkering, so it could have been me to be fair.

If all is well I'll likely regrade the Openreach FTTP line to something cheap and use as a backup. I'm hoping that by the time the 18 month contract is up, City Fibre will have come to this area so I'll have 3x providers to choose form.

I hear several people say the same about the speed later on in the day thats why I asked. Nothing wrong with this Area either so when I was told I was suprised!
We have City Fibre slowly moving down our st they started 6 months ago then went away and returned about a week ago... very srtange so I am hopeful for this contract end.
VM will tidy up quite well, not the best I've ever had but still.

Not sure what's going on in, but this is what it's been like the last day or two.

Luckily, our Virgin services stops on the 19th and we're moving to fibre.
I had a strange call from VM this morning saying the stats on my router are way out and that my speeds are not as they should be. Other than the Virgin 360 box I've switched everything over to my FTTP router so can't say I've noticed anything. My BQM looks normal. I'm not going to take them up on anything as my contract ends in a few days so no point an Engineer coming to rectify things.

I am surprised people still use ISP email, it was never a great idea as its tied to the ISP, and isnt their primary service so barely maintained as well.

If dont want to buy a domain or setup email hosting, then just move to something like gmail and put these issues behind you.

I just use it as a backup I never use it to send email.

So many posts about people leaving (I left for FTTP a few months ago too) I am surprised anyone is left!

All my neighbours and I mean all of them switched to a FTTP provider the moment it was available earlier this year. Not even the the older couples who didn’t seem that interested in their broadband kept Virgin. It seems to have hit that sweet spot now of being neither good value for money or a reasonably good service, so what can they really offer anymore?

Well for me they offer what no one else can at my address, gigabit broadband, the closest compettior can only offer circa 70mbit (via VDSL).

Light years ahead of Openreach here.

The reason why people are leaving is due to their prices and the fact that VM no longer give a crap about loyalty.

I've been with them for many many years (since they where cable tel\NTL days) and new customers get better deals than me and I cannot even get close to the cost of a new customer along with the speeds they offer.

I currently pay £30 a month for 250mb service, I see people paying that for 1GB. If I choose to leave the only other suppliers around here can only offer me a 50mb (same price as im currently paying) service max and no 5G here either

Exactly the position I was in. As soon as FTTP was available I switched. I had been with Virgin for 10 years and just had enough of the terrible deals they gave to existing customers. I had no issue with the service, I had Broadband only. Before I left my contract had increased to £64 for 250 meg download, broadband only.

I shouldnt have to threaten to cancel/cancel before they offer me deals. Even now after I have cancelled and happy on my new FTTP service they are offering me a shocking deal of 100m download for £27 per month. That's just not on.

Plus on FTTP you can switch between providers and use new customer offers/cashback deals every 18 months.

Virgin, to me, seem to be still operating with the belief that FTTP and alt-nets don't exist.

Same situation here, although Grain Connect are building very close and should cover my area within a year. I'm not sure I'll go with them though due to the CGNAT issue and going off their Google reviews, they are awful, although a lot of the reviews seem to be based off the shoddy workmanship and installation outside the properties.

Openreach and Cityfibre are also supposed to cover this area, but there are no concrete plans yet, so this could be years away.

CF have just put the area to green, but seems to be no isp listed on their checker, I have contacted AAISP to see if it is actually available yet.

OR dont even have the area planned for FTTP. So not 2023, 2024, 2025,2026, 2027 but never. It isnt some isolated location either, just the 10th biggest city in England.

Same as me, their service is great and the uptime is excellent and I also only had broadband with no other services from them.

Apart from the country outage and it being down for 1 day which effected the area I have had no issues with it.

As soon as another provider can offer me FTTP I will most likely switch and tell VM where to stick it

Like others have said, what they offer me is far better than the other options - max 30mbit down via openreach as I'm miles from the cabinet, no Gfast, no fttp, no 5G, 4G speeds around 25mbit.

I'm inside the M25 BTW, not in the middle of nowhere!

So VM mail is still down as I still error out on my iPhone and Thunderbird. So much for a 6 hour down time, they've now hit 24hrs+. Honestly what clowns do thry have working on this because they need sacking. I use VM email and a Gmail address equally but after this mess I'm ditching the VM address entirely because it's too unreliable.

There's a rumour there's going to be some lost emails.

Interesting as I only use imap as I need my mail to work over multiple devices and none of my old emails have disappeared luckily, oldest ones I have are going back to 2018 are all there and working fine when opened. If I lost them for me it's not important as it's just receipts which aren't of any use to me now really.

Already moved 99% of my accounts over to Gmail now so I won't be touching VM mail again after this crap.

Regarding mine. Apparently there is an issue in the area, discovered yesterday. They updated it to say it would be fixed yesterday evening. Just received a new update saying the new fix date is the 10th!

I’ve been with Virgin for 20+ years. There is no alternative to them where I live (believe me I’ve explored it) and no sign of any in the near future. The broadband and Tv are pretty solid (albeit expensive) and I need a solid wired connection for working from home. It’s the Wi-Fi that’s doing my head in. It’s shocking and seems to be getting worse. I live in a 50s bungalow that’s been extended several times with many different ring circuits (I’m mentioning this because I’ve (unsuccessfully) tried the powerline adaptors). I currently have a wired TP-Link acting as an extender (not sure if that’s the right term) which is in the dormer extension. I still have some noticeable dead spots in the house. I keep reading about Mesh setups. Can anybody recommend one that they have successfully set up with Virgin Media? I still want the wired connection to my desktop PC for work. I’m asking now in case anything comes up in any sales in the next week or so
