Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Virgin finished putting fibre to the distro cab today on my road, apparently using their latest kit which is full fttp and not coax.

Got a good nosey in the cab and layout, even which "tube" runs to my house :D

Given the option of "maybe" 25Mb with BT lines vs Gigabit Virgin.... its a no brainer.

I have had Virgin installed today for the gigabit which is very quick as described. The only issue I'm having is I have changed the name of my network to mirror my old one (so that all devices connect without changing them all around). Once the device is renamed I cannot seem to connect to it.

My contract is up next month, what sort of prices have people be getting deals on for the Gigabit internet?

Mixed somewhat since there are guys here that got the deal early in the year or even last summer, some are paying for the full works (as I call it) Big TV package + movies+BTsports+1gig Fibre+telephone+o2 sim roughly £40-£60 per month (earlier adopters from last year) but this year its roughly £50-80 per month.

I pay roughly £70 per month for the above from 4 months ago, that was from a hot uk deals deal and I have a bit more extra foreign channels included otherwise would be roughly £60 per month.

Sometimes you will need to forget the network per device and re-add them they get a bit confused!

I've been with VM for over 20 years and I'm sick and tired of jumping through the hoops every 18 months. Currently paying £40 for 250mb but I've got a spare EE 5G router SIM. I'm in the process of moving the EE to WAN1 and leaving VM on WAN2, I'll see how the connection goes for Teams. Got until March next year until I need sort this or FTTP installed, but I'm not jumping through VMs hoops again.

Another week another down time session, this time the weekend

The craziest thing is there TV to go app runs fine off the mobile allowing you to stream/watch all your paid channels on your phone/tablet etc even if all services are down, but the app is so un-usable since you can only cast it via the V360 box then to your TV set.... but that only works if the V360 box is fully up and running:D

Manual casting is blocked also, its like VM engineers forgot to use their product for more then 5 minutes.

Also highly sneaky, VM purposely knew people would click register a loss of service but it says for more then a day and also complete loss of service so
just as it was about to hit a complete day they switched just the broadband service on so people would be unable to register a claim:cry:

Welcome to Virgin Media

My VM went down this morning 8am (ish) Hertfordshire, had to restart my SH5 and Unifi system

I'm on Sky Stream so when VM go down, all hell breaks loose :)

Contract is up in a month. Currently trying to get the agent to put me through to cancellations.

If I don't get a good deal with cancellations I'll go down the new customer route. Question for others who signed up a family member as a new customer, were you able to transfer the landline number?

Edit: Current contract is 1Gig + Mixit TV + Weekend Chatter. I was paying £37 until June when the price increased to £46.

Agent finally offered me a deal, same services but BB reduced to M500 (Volt boost M350 to M500) at £38.

Edit 2: While sorting out the contract the agent said they made a mistake and came back with BB reduced to M350 and now asking for £42. It's over to cancellations now.

My Home hub 5 failed a few days ago, woke up and noticed my phone was not on WIFI, could not get on to router access page, tried resetting it a few times even by pressing the black button for full reset. Called support took about 40minutes until they decided i needed an engineer.

Managed to get an appointment following day, told the guy the hub was at fault and was bricked so needed a new one, he then spent 30 minutes changing all my cables and after that did not work he said he would try a new hub.... which worked.

Honestly i am quite impressed that they got a guy out the following day and he had a new hub in the van.

I was supplied a SH5 back in Jan 2022, it failed in Jan 2023 and due to them not having any in stock I was sent a SH4 to get it backup and running.

Still got the SH4 now but was surprised that the SH5 failed after only having it a year

Had my SH5 for probably 5 months before it failed, they sent it me when i upgraded to the 1GIG since i had SH3 which was not compatible.

Im presume it was some overnight update that failed and bricked it, it was 100% fine and working up until like 11pm before i went to bed and then the next morning bricked.
