Virgin Media Discussion Thread

My 50mb is being weird in the evenings when downloading with IDM, seems to only want to go to about 1.5mb per file, but i can run 3-4 files at the same time to get maxxed problem is I dont want to do that and just like queing one file at a time.

the problem seems to go away after 11pm...random!

are VM doing something with my packets???

I got an engineer comming tonight to check my connection!

Well I have had the VM engineer out. He believes that my "superHub" is not so super.

He said that the are terrible in general, and 30% of them get swapped out. He has swapped mine out and checked the signal and the strenght was out of the "acceptable" range. He said the frequency should be +/- 2 db at most and mine was fluxuating up to +5. He has fitted a filter and changed the hub over.

He told me that the Virgin Media CEO is not happy with the SuperHubs and they are looking to source a new hub soon as these cause too many issues.

I have run a new monitor, lets hope the packet loss is better now! Intial testing seems good

Its got beyond a joke so this evening i have signed up to BE 24meg broadband.

No point having high download speeds if the connection is worse than dial up due to the packet loss and ping in the evenings

Bye bye rubbish VM connection

Its the network thats the problem not the superhubs they are just spinning people a line with that one.

ace modder - i hope it doesnt but i bet within no time you will be back to high packet losses

Well.. as you can see in my graph above... diabolical! I have my three dongle in at the mo.. 15gb usage a month is more thn enough to browse for a few hours every day so im going to continue to use that as ping is 120ms but packet loss is around 10% at the worst and gaming is far easier than on the shoddy connection provided by virgin.

from posts on the virgin media forum i thought they'd already gone onto new models, problem was it was pure luck if you got one of the new ones or old ones depending on how there picked out the warehouse.

Just started my own monitor. If i post it here does it really mean, 'live graph' and will update if refreshed on the board?

I'm having similar issues too, however I downgraded to 10Mb which offered a mild improvement. I've been having issues ever since starting my contract 5 months ago.

Do I have a legal leg to stand on to terminate the contract (or at least remove broadband and phone line from package) as they've not been able to fix it? Impossible to game on this connection after work :(
