Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I've just got Broadband only, don't want the phone although i know it would only cost me £1, 50mb is something like £28 + £11 for the phone, or £37 on its own (give or take £1) as far as i know this is the 1st Sept deal...

ive just checked and its £35 plus £11 for the line rental on the phone (has a lil asterix explaining it), which comes to £46 or £50 on its own.. I cant see anything about the sept deal, so im probably mistaken.

To celebrate the completion of the network roll-out, Virgin Media announced a new pricing structure for its 50Mb service. From 1st September Virgin Media will reduce the monthly cost of its 50Mb service for new and existing customers to £28, when taken with a phone line, or £38 if taken as a sole product, making the ultrafast service ultra-fantastic value. The 50Mb service continues to be free of traffic management.

ssmac what number did you ring to get your upgrade, id take it now if i could get it at the same price im paying for my 20mb which is £37 atm

I called '150' from my sisters virgin phone, asked for 50mb for £37 and the guy on the phone checked...10 sec wait and then he said 'no problem' music to my ears! I asked if the instal was still £20 and again no problem, didn't need to go through to retention, it was very simple and quick.

You should have no problems at all...

Think I'm paying £27 for 20MB now so what will that come down to? Or should I just upgrade?

@Dark Angel - Engineer does bring the modem and router.
@Dangerous - there has never been any mention of the 20Mb or 10Mb prices dropping, so it's down to you really.
@SSMACC - Did they tell you about the £30 activation fee??

My friend told me they sent it BEFORE hand :/

If they don't 2nd of Sept I'll be on the phone and say why am I paying £37 for 20mb when 50mb is the same price!!

Same. If they don't alter the price I won't be a happy camper.

According to the guy I spoke to I am only charged £20, I did ask if it was still only £20 and he said yep (as apposed to £50 - £20 for engineer + £30 for activation)

engineer is bringing the gear, again I asked after reading this post

Which they do a lot of the time.
They bank on customers not checking the prices/services often therefore a lot of customers never know there is any better than what they have for the cost theyre paying.

I bet their reply will be "because you asked for 20meg" just say fine and ask for the upgrade, if in initial contract period from my understanding of VM upgrades are fine its downgrades past your original pack they can become arsey about.

If out of contract use this as a chance to bargain your way to a nice discount :) (well attempt to xD)

Taking 50mb means you are accepting a new 12 month contract i was told that when i had mine a few months ago.

Yep spoke to a mate at Virgin and he confirmed it's another year contract, saying that i can't see anyone else getting anywhere near 50mb, and I've been with Virgin/NTL for 6 years and I'm quite happy to sign for another one.
