Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Might have missed this somewhere so apologies for asking again - does someone *really* need to visit the premises to get this installed? Can't they just send their router and modem without having to do the visit?

I recently had a VM chap try to 'fix' the TV, he replaced the horrendous Scientific Atlanta box, with yet another box of the same kind and now 18 channels don't work and it's still awfully slow and unuseable. So I wouldn't want any of their knowledge less engineers to visit since hooking up a modem is dead simple.

v+ box?
The new sammies are apparantly a LOT faster.
The black original v+ boxes apparantly have sammy parts inside them but stillt he slow menus and issues of the previous box. A call is due I think wehn these go minstream.

Wouldn't you be annoyed tho as all their recent press shows the Slimline sammy box and then you receive the hooge SA one :(

Roll on Sep 1st I have a retentions call to make :D
50meg and either same or a drop in price is my aim lol

On a side note, anyone else notice VM have a new error page (assuming you use their DNS), so if you type an incorrect URL, it will bring up their search rather than a standard 404 error page.

It's causing uproar, both technically and practically so plenty of people are opting out of the service.
Incidently, a 404 error is a server reporting a page cannot found whereas this is to replace a server not found error.

So exactly what is happening ? we are currently paying £37 a month for 20mb
50 mb is going to be £37 a month with phone line ? so what will the price drop be on 20mb surely it needs to be around half 50mb ?
so 20mb come sept 1st should be around £18 including phone ?

after reading up some is 20mb going to be £31 a month if taken with phone if so what an incredible rip off that is ? for £7 more you can get 50 mb ?

I don't want another 12 month contract as I might be moving soon.

I dont know if anythings changed recently but when we moved a few years ago the rule was that if they could supply you a cable service then the contract stood but if you moved somewhere where they were unable to supply you then you were released from the contract.

even more confused now how are you ordering 50mb for £28 +£11 line rental ? rang them up and 50mb is £56 not £39 ???????

This is correct.

huh £7 more than the current £37 a month were paying or £7 more then the sept 1st reduced price of £21 ? i rang them up and xxl bb xxl tv and m phone = £67-50 per month how are you all getting this deal ? that should be £56 total right ?

can anyone shed light on this ? I tried to upgrade and wasn't offered free installation and was quoted £67-50 a month for 50mb xxl tv and m phone.

When I first got Virgin TV They discounted me about £25 (I took XL TV+ 20Mbit BB) and paid £48. I made the foolish mistake of cancelling the broadband due to my hate towards STM and now I don't have that discount any more. I wish I could get it back (and get 50Mbit as well!) :)

I'm in the process of uploading videos to YouTube of what problems I keep getting with my box.

I called them yesterday and spoke to a gentleman in India who said he placed some elite hax0r thing on the V+ box to observe it over 24 and 'sent some signals'. NOTHING changed since that.

I calculated how many channels DON'T WORK. Guess? 20 Channels don't work at all or keep getting digital signal breakup. The engineer who installed the replacement box said the signal was good.

Also every day it keeps giving me a smart card read error. I am just totally fed up. Maybe I could complain to them enough so they send me a new Samsung TV+ box and 50Mbit for a similar discount as in the past? I would go to SKY but right now it's looking unlikely as there are installation issues so I don't have anywhere to go..

Just got mine installed, and up and running. Loving it so far, speed test.net gives me 50.5MB most of the time, with 10MS ping.

I tried CS and got as low as 7 ping O.O. Quite happy.

Okay nobody is speaking up about this ? as far a I am aware 50mb is going to be £45 and xl 20mb is staying at £37 how on earth are people getting 50mb for £28 + £11 for phone ?

Yes I have read that But I have also read on the newsgroups support forums that it will be £45 for xxl + phone and 20 mb is staying at it's current price point.
With the new pricing structure, a typical user could enjoy a phone line, a digital TV service featuring Virgin Media’s pioneering TV on demand system and the UK’s fastest broadband at up to 50Mb from as little as £39 per month. A typical family could enjoy a complete entertainment package including our top TV service featuring 160 channels, a V+ HD box to enjoy HD content, as well as the ultrafast 50Mb service and a phone line from as little as £60.50 per month.
roll on the 1st then as we are paying £58 a month here for 20mb bb xxl tv and medium phone, so I can expect to get xxl everything for £2 more ? believe it when I see it tbh.

I mentioned the press release when I rang up and was fobbed off.

This is how it should be then come the first

XL 20mb = £20
XXL 50mb = £39

anything worse than that whos going to be daft enough to not get 50mb if it's like £2 a week extra

Virgin media do provide a great service but all this stuff with some customers getting better deals than others is starting to boil my blood.

I am pretty sure there's people out there getting 50mb xxl tv and m phone for less than I am paying now for 20mb with the same tv and phone.

Well my efforts were in vain. I had yet another engineer visit booked to fix the damn V+ box giving a smart card read error all the time as well as the 20 channels not working.

Asked to be connected to retentions. They seem pretty clueless and after I mentioned a press release, they put me on hold and hung up on me eventually. They also took down my cellphone number in case the line would cut off but of course did not call back!

I used to pay £49 for XL TV (V+ box) & 20Mbit BB, now that 50Mbit is pretty much at the same level there should be no reason why I can't do the same thing, or else.. I'll get sky!

I have just been told by VM that my bill for 50Mb and phone line as in the add
will be £39.00p from next month, a happy bunny here :)

I'm just unlucky! I call a second time and they still say the 50Mbit is £50!

What they did offer is to install a second telephone line so that I get a discount. I already have a BT line. Can anyone within good reason please tell me why they're so bloody obsessed with their stupid phone lines? I only use VOIP and don't need ridiculous rental rates for any sort of landline :)

What is your tone on the phone like? Are you sounding aggressive?

No, you got to put the "little boy lost" voice on women love that kind of thing ;)
I know nothing, I need help, I know nothing about the internet,Could you PLEASE help me(cry ,sod :) )

I talked to a lady who worked in a bank before VM and we had a chat about that.

Works for me.

I've got the install tomorrow! I've been posted the Netgear router (although 3 different VM staff told me the engineer would bring everything with him) should I try and swap it for a Links one, is the Netgear one that bad?

I’ve not been posted a UB dongle, will the engineer have one of those on him?

Cheers
