The netgear is a WRN2000 very good router, but be careful as when the engineer came to install mine on Monday he tried to give me a Dlink DIR-615 which is crap.

So he gave me a Netgear from his van instead.

Ah and you get given a USB adapter too.

The people that I know with the WRN2000 are having drop outs every day
and I think thats why VM install the D-link now.

My d-link is fine so far.

Strange. They swapped to dlink because of the netgear problems

After a chat with a nice lady in retentions, I've got 50mb being installed on the 8th Sept.

XXL Broadband, standard TV and phoneline, £33 per month!

I'm dubious as to whether her discounts will work out like she said, but I've got her name so will be straight back on the blower if not. Result really as I was paying 29 quid a month with 10Mb bb :p
 
I had virgin bundle installed nearly a month ago by 3 of their skilled fitters. Unfiortunately none of them had any idea how to set up the BB on a PC beyond following their step bu step guide. When the guy initially ran speed test and got only 25Mb he claimed it was because of a: my old dial up BB and b: the most my pc coul;d handle. Soon set him right and after a fiddle with their equipment etc outside I soon got 48 - 52 Mb. They didin't even bother installing the router, claiming it wasn't part of the service. TBH I wasn't bothered as after seeing them work I didn't want them anywhere near my PC for longer than necessary.

The WNR2000 router seems pretty poor to me. It repeatedly drops connection to my Tosh laptop yet does a great job to a pc on the 3rd floor with the freebie usb dongle. It also throttles the main pc to around 40Mb on the wired connection. If I remove the router then run the test again I always get an extra 10Mb per sec.

For anyone considering Virgin though I'd recommend them on my experience so far. Especially if you live out in the willy wags like me. I can't see BT ever getting customers like me on a good fast connection.

Godammit, I'm always apprehensive to phone retentions, because i know knowing my luck they'll just cancel me then and there!
 
Virgin are an absolute mess. I just spent 20 minutes on the phone telling them about the deal, once again they had no idea! Luckily this time, the lady didnt hang up on me and actually followed me to the website showing the press releases. Cue her telling her supervisor and what sounded like mass panic in the office as everyone was briefed on a new deal they knew nothing about.

Anyway, they wouldnt do anything for me then and there and said I must wait until the 1st september and try then. Who the hell are you guys phoning that seem to actually know whats going on and be of some use!?
 
When I cancelled my 20Mbit back in June, the man on the phone didn't even care to ask anything, he just said "ok done" and that was it!
 
Virgin should be here after 12:00 (50mb) seems the majority recomend trying to get the Links router then, not the Netgear?

What is happening on 1 September is that the 'list price' for BB XXL is
coming down from £52 to £45. There is no change in any other BB price - BB
XL remains at £37.

What this means to the real pricing of peoples packages varies but is as
follows. Anyone not on VIP, XLPlus or Triple XL with BB XXL) should see a £7
reduction in their total charge.

Those on VIP, XLPlus and Triple XL will only see a £2 reduction in price.
This is because these packages were given an extra £5 discount when BB XXL
was originally available. This addition discount is now being removed so
that EVERYONE with BB XXL in their package will pay £8 more than anyone with
BB XL in their package. BB XXL will always be £8 more than BB XL from now
on.

so how are people getting this 50mb for £28 then ? the only drop is as above according to newsgroup feedback, are some people telling porky pies ?

this is what i know (happened to me) 50mb (loving it!) installed on Saturday for the same price as 20mb - £37 (for 20mb not a good deal for 50 i'm happy!)

Repeat £37, BB only.

could people post in this thread what they are getting and what they are paying per month ? we can compare and start to get some form of idea exactly what sort of a joke Virgin media billing is.

20mb broadband
medium phone
XXL tv

total monthly bill = £58
