Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Why would it ever come back to bite him on the bottom? You phone up Virgin and complain, they feign ignorance and apologise. You've signed the contract, they've got your business and that's all they care about. Nothing will ever come of your complaint and it'll be more hassle than it's worth for you to pursue it.

He said it because it's what you wanted to hear and because it increased the chances of him making a sale, on which he gets paid commission.

Isn't that called mis-selling?

Never mind, the 20mbit is plenty for us, just would've been nice to get the 50mbit for free. Although, just found a thread on here that says that Virgin WILL be doing the upgrade. I'm confused.com!

Everything I've read has said that they won't be offering it as a free upgrade. I'd take this as gospel personally.

After all, if it turns out that we're wrong and they suddenly decide to be nice and upgrade everyone, it'll be a nice surprise.

I very much doubt they'll be giving it away as a free upgrade considering the cost to themselves,i can see a one off fee for the new modem then an extra £10 or so a month.

I can't get more than 5.8 meg out of my 20 meg connection, so there is no way I'll be forking out another £10 a month for VM to under deliver on service :(

They will not be offering a free upgrade bottom line.

With 50mb they are sending out new modems which will cost the consumer on a one off payment & then after it will be £52 a month. This is going on what Trax said on CF.

Indeed, I agree with you. I was addressing someone's post saying that they didn't know whether to believe those of us saying this or the one person who heard from a sales rep that it'd be free...

Even if they do going on the speeds they set for the stm's around now 75% which still work out at what 12.5 meg, that be ok.

I am sure i saw there was no plan to put a stm on it for the first 6months, not 100% sure mind.

Those pesky sales reps giving out false information, I'd rather take Trax's word on it than them. He seems quite consistant with his information.

Tech radar has a article that shows the design of the 50Mbps modem that VM plan to use, and i must say it does look a fair bit better then previous modems, it also says that this service should be available before the end of the year.

I cancelled my vm contract last month and never looked back. Downgraded from a vm20, to an O2 16meg. I never got 20megs on vm, at most i got about 13! I never had any problems with blueyonder, but as soon as vm were on the scene, the net went downhill fast! Come to think of it, they still haven't collected the modem or the tv box like they said they would. Too late now, they're going on ebay!

I'd be careful with that one. It's still their property and not yours so selling them on ebay is not a good idea. If they do decide to collect their equipment, which is probable, you'll end up having to pay them £250 per missing box. You'll also probably find your auction reported and ended if you try and sell the boxes on the bay if what i read in the virgin newsgroups is correct. This may affect your ebay account.

Its mad how some areas are bad been on 20 meg for a year now and its been a fantastic service, never been down once speeds 2.2mbs apart from when i hit the stm of course, but i still doing upto 500 gig a month and never had any issues off them.
