Virgin Media Discussion Thread

These upgrades seem almost pointless. Surely they should have spent a bit of extra time on the infrastructure and kept things as they were speed wise, instead of going after a headline 200Mb which doesn't really offer much benefit to those on 152Mb already?

The fact the top tier's upload isn't increasing is laughable.

It's all about marketing the headline speed.

Yeah but the advertising 'we're over double the speed of Sky and BT' etc will sound better than being twice as fast.

I presume that's a typo? Is it supposed to be 200/20?

I've read a few times now that the upload won't be increasing on the top tier. To be honest the first I read (and I'll admit this is mainly forum talk) was 300/30, then 300/20, then 200/20 and now 200/same. It's probably just realism kicking in.

No internet since 8 am this morning and now they are saying 1200 tomorrow on the status checker, not happy at all! Is it worth phoning up to complain or am
I wasting my breath?

Is the Virgin Super Hub 2 supposed to be a good router? Ours does some weird stuff, like you turn off the PS4 and the whole wifi in the house goes off. The wifi goes off quite often actually, probably 3-4 times per week. Not sure if it's always turning off a device that triggers it, I don't think so. We also have complete internet drop outs that are fixed by resetting the router, suggesting the router is the problem. I'm pretty sure the router was fine when we first got it.

So, questions - is there a better router available from Virgin, or is the Super Hub 2 the latest? Is it worth doing a factory reset? Does it matter that I have the 5GHz wifi turned off - could the router be running out of channels on the 2G wifi? Is the router just malfunctioning and in need of replacing?

Thanks for any help.

Internet, TV and phone went off yesterday for about 12 hours.

Old speed 40mbps down

New speed 105mbps down.

Its fast as **** upload not so good but down, jesus never got porn so fast in my life I just cannot keep up now. :p

No you have the Superhub 2AC my friend. :p

They released the SH2, then released a newer AC wireless edition, however stuck with SH2 and dubbed it SH2AC.

I just called them. They couldn't do a deal on the 152mb so I said I am on a strict budget. So I got downgraded to 100mb which apparently will be upgraded tomorrow to 150mb for £28 a month and they chucked in a free AC Superhub :)

Virgin have done an about turn and are now saying there will be an upload increase, only for the bottom 2 packages though.

Old Speed: 50Mbps [3Mbps Upload]
New Speed: 70Mbps [5Mbps Upload]

Old Speed: 100Mbps [6Mbps Upload]
New Speed: 150Mbps [10Mbps Upload]

Old Speed: 152Mbps [12Mbps Upload]
New Speed: 200Mbps [12Mbps Upload]

They never said what it will be until now - the speeds before were taken from users testing higher speeds, so they haven't u-turned from anything.

Yeah, this. It's a little disappointing relative to the tested speeds. But my bill is down to £29 a month and I'll be getting a free upgrade to 200Mb in a few days.

There isn't really much to complain about. Except for the upload speed. That's arse.
