Speak to cancellations. They will get one sent out for you...

I think I will. I rang them a few days ago and they reduced my price considerably from £33 to £26 for 12 months and sent me the SH2. I guess I can push a bit more. Also, looks like Azza got an AC but hasn't got the supposed 200MB requirement.

VM don't usually charge for delivery. I've never paid for delivery when I went from a SH1 to 2 to 2ac.

That's just the usual VM inconsistency. If you hav a SH1 and try to put through a web order, the system will tell you that you need to upgrade and charges you £6 delivery. People have been told this after being on the phone to customer service. Others get the hardware for free. Or they get told they will and then get a delivery charge on their bill.

As I suspected, my area's speed upgrade date has been pushed back a month. Now saying end of December.

Going by last time, that means next March ;)

Hi

Think I need to ring them?

My current package comes to £71.88 a month which includes

Vivid 100bb (due a upgrade to 152bb whenever that happens)
XL TV
XL Phone

That includes a loyalty discount of £8 , though in December we lose that so the price will go up to £79-

I looked on VM and It seems I can get a better package with 200bb for less!!!!

If you did upgrade to the "VIVID 200Mb/s" package it will be cheaper for the first 2 years and then you'll end up paying a load more after those 2 years. Don't fall for the trap of what most people end up in, plus evaluate whether you need the actual speed of 200Mb/s or not. Evaluating whether you need it or not could be answered through simple questions like this:

Do you have/use Gigabit Ethernet equipment or normal Fast Ethernet (10/100) equipment? Don't always rely on wireless connectivity, unless you have DUAL BAND 2.4GHz and 5GHz devices in your house which can handle near to the highest speeds on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

How many devices are using the internet in your house? I have at least 20+ devices in my house and they all cope working and connecting (also using the internet) at the same time on the 70Mb/s package (which previously was the 50Mb/s package a few months ago).

Do and can you get everything done on your current "VIVID 100Mb/s" package? Virgin will also most likely give you an upgrade in a few years to 200Mb/s anyway, plus Virgin are apparently planning on releasing a 300Mb/s service.

I predict their next upgrade roll-out plans will be the following:

70Mb/s to 100Mb/s
100Mb/s to 150Mb/s or possibly even 200Mb/s
150Mb/s to 200Mb/s
200Mb/s to 250Mb/s or possibly even 300Mb/s

(THESE ARE ONLY MY PREDICTIONS BASED ON THE PAST AND PRESENT UPGRADES!)

That makes sense.:)

Think we will keep the 100bb then as its being increased to 152bb soon anyway.
Would like to get it below £70 really considering we don't even have any of the sports/movie packages.

Happy days - just had my DOCSIS3 :D

By the time the February rise kicks in my bill will have gone from £75 to £90 over 12 months.
Looks like getting on the phone to them again.

I've just had a row with them on the phone. I will be affected from February. I haggled a deal with them about 2 weeks ago for phone and broadband. I am disgusted that my bill will go up by £4 a month within 3 months.

Not in so many words, but they pretty much have the attitude of "Well you got a great discount so what are you moaning for" Well yes, I got a discount because I'm a loyal customer. I agreed a price for 12 months. Why do you have to move the goalposts so quickly.

I think it should be law that 12 month contract involving things like TV, phone and broadband should be price protected for the duration of the contract.

I may sound like a moaning old fart, but I think it's disgraceful that they are allowed to offer these deals, under what I consider, false pretences.

Yes - in fact I just re-negotiated a new deal as well, good loyalty discount, which I was slightly surprised at becuase I was downgrading my package. But I guess they were getting me into a new contract, where I was out of contract before, so made sense for them. I certainly don't want to be paying more though from February !

I have JUST signed up, 19th October was my install date. What is the point of an 18 month contract when they can just change their pricing whenever they want to? Agreed, a contract should be price protected for the duration.

Normally I let price hikes slide, but I fully intend to phone up about this. I only just renewed to a new 12 month contract a weeks ago with a £5 discount on my bill for 6 months (ironically which takes me up to roughly February when the new price hike comes in).

Has anyone here done the trick of cancelling (if retentions let it go that far) then getting a partner/housemate to re-sign up as a new customer immediately after? Would if anything be a way of getting 200Mbps and a new Superhub quicker :p

I don't mind once a year but their prices are starting to increase multiple times a year now.

They usually phone you back with an offer before your cut off date when you cancel. Not always though so there is a bit of a risk :p

I can understand people being frustrated at price increases but on the flipside firstly, their contract (signed and read by the customer) and notification letter states you have 28 days from receiving notification of an increase to cancel FoC. Secondly, they have increased broadband speeds to over double that of Sky, BT, Talk Talk and anyone else in the UK so in fairness they can pretty much set prices at whatever rate they want.

This 'loyalty' thing doesn't wash, companies use it to make you think you're a valued customer when in actual fact they are just keeping hold of you away from competitors at a price that does not result in them losing money. Conversely no one is 'loyal' to a tv/phone/internet company. You all choose the company that either had the better coverage/package or the better price.

I left Virgin TV for Sky TV because it had better choice and price for Sports and Movies and kept Virgin Broadband because Sky and BT can't provide fibre in my area yet. There is no loyalty with this kind of company and people only throw out the word to try get a discount. Exact same concept as mobile phone providers. When my Sky contract is up and the 12 month discount expires, if they don't allow me to keep the price at the same level we'll just cancel and put it in the missus' name and go again. That's as loyal as it gets.

Realistically there should be a flat out, set rate based on number of years tied to an individual company. Most of the people who moan about price increases are the ones who are already on a lower rate than most through moaning in the first place.
