Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Has anyone here done the trick of cancelling (if retentions let it go that far) then getting a partner/housemate to re-sign up as a new customer immediately after? Would if anything be a way of getting 200Mbps and a new Superhub quicker :p

That's the best way to go, even the Sky engineer who installed our Sky+ box said don't add your partner to the contract or login so we could go that route in 12 months.

Anyone noticing any high latency/ping and jitter issues? I'm in Virgin Media's Area Reference 20 and I live in Burnley, Padiham.

My latency/ping is usually 5 - 10ms (usually 7ms on average) when using speedtest.net, but it goes all the way up to 100ms+ sometimes. My latency/ping when using pingtest.net is usually below 25ms (about 15ms - 20ms, depending on which UK server I choose/pick to test from) and my jitter when using pingtest.net never usually goes over 10ms, since it is about 1ms - 5ms on average.

Anyone else had an email from VM saying that have incorrectly sent out new contracts in the post recently, and to ignore them?

I got one but I assumed that was due to having signed up to a £5 a month off offer.

Powerlines don't look great in this house. :(

Guess I'll have to run some ethernet up the front of the house.

Currently on BT on around 5-8Mbs and have been for a while since I've got my old Computer still. Planning on a new OC system later this year early next to play games again etc and do a bit more than shopping, browsing and Email. Contract up with BT end of the year.

Really is that the price of Virgin BB seems a bit steep considering the deals floating around. I had NTL/Virgin years ago and dropped it as I was not using it. So it's sitting right at my Computer desk already wired in. Would jump on this if it was £15 a month but find it a bit steep for a light user wanting some good BB speed when I do get on.

SuperFibre 50 £30
VIVID 100 £35
VIVID 200 £43

Just noticed the price of my package with Virgin had crept upto £95 per month!
  • 125mb BB
  • XL TV
  • XL Phone
  • + other various TV odd ons like Baby TV, etc (not Sky)
  • + TIVO & additonal extra VM Box

10 minute phone call and now paying £62 per month
  • 200mb BB
  • XL TV
  • M Phone
  • + TIVO & additonal extra VM Box

Didn't even have to threaten them with leaving and the broadband is noticeably quicker, I didn't think there would be much difference but the upload speed seems much improved. Speed tests show ping around 7ms so happy with that :)

Anyone just get the letter from Virgin announcing bills are going up £3.49 in Feb 2016 for Virgin WiFi Anywhere? I assume this is their version of BT FON etc?

Is that including line rental? I'm paying only a few quid less than that (57 i think) for 50mb, M TV, phone and BT Sports :/

Noticed my Big Kahuna deal was pushing £70 for a bunch of stuff I don't need (+ price rises next year), so I called them up to cancel knowing I could get 50% off everything for 12 months with Sky. Scouse lad on the other end basically laughed at me and insinuated that I was lying, and that if I could get a deal that good there was no point him even trying to offer me anything. Much to his surprise I agreed and cancelled anyway, arrogant ****.

Got Unlimited BT Infinity 1 (40/10) for £10/m + £17.99 line rental, + £5 sub for BT Sports, £100 cashback and £100 Sainsburys voucher. Sky Family TV for £18/m + £110 cashback + £75 bill credit. All discounts over 12 months, on 12 month contracts!

Nearly halved my total bill for a hit on broadband speed (which I don't need anyway). Would have happily stayed with VM for convenience but they clearly can't compete with the other providers at the minute.
